Slippery_Weasel 460
I will be watching them go by but only because it is passing a mile or so from where I live. I was talking to someone the other day who goes to watch it every year. I cant remember the exact numbers of spectators he mentioned but he said that people were 10 deep along the side of the road. Considering I have hardly seen any prep for the event I think the area is not gonna know what hit it with the amount of people/cars etc. I suspect its going to be one of those times to not even bother trying to drive anywhere. mouse 282
that's why im parking up for 5 days mate.it will be massive .they reckon 50,000 on buttertubs alone.been to france and theres mountains that are closed 5 days before the tour gets there due to the numbers.the sponsors parade that comes through before the actual peloton lasts 3 hours and you normally get loads of freebies especially the kids.really looking forward to it especially with the music festival on for 3 days as well. oneredtrim 148
I'll be watching as I'm very near the Holme Moss climb You're lucky having that on your doorstep Crag, was in that cycle friendly cafe in holmfirth last week, a trio of riders started to chat, i did'nt recognise thier dialect and so asked them where they were from. The gaffer told me leicester and i asked if they'd jumped some bb's..he said no they'd spun up that morning for a sniff at Holme Moss. Before he rode off i asked him his age '70 son' he replied. The two 30yr olds in tow looked parrot of him http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/racing/tour-de-france/tour-de-france-2014-stage-two-route-pictures-116118 Edited June 21, 2014 by oneredtrim
cragman 2,843
ORT I drove over it the other evening and the cyclists were out in force. I've been on Kinder Scout today doing "The Round" but could see Holme Moss mast from where I was, bet it was busy today
oneredtrim 148
We usually spring Holme Moss on any gobshites gagging for a wager, with it being 30 mile out it's a killer presented mid-ride, telling em they've only 30 of all hills for home when they're passing the mast seems to do tricks with thier equilibrium. I personally prefer the Meltham road out of marsden back into holmfirth, think there's possibly greater overall climbing, good ride if you plan to come back over the moor into greenfield, getting back up the station approach heading for Hartshead is another section i like, had it from the etihad to that holmfirth cafe in hr 21mins on a 42t cog. RemyBolt 420
Tour De Pharmacy? All on drugs! Everyone knows it. Having said that, I really don't care. I could pump up with all the drugs those guys take and there's no way I could do what they do!!! I'd not even be 10% as good as them. We'll be watching it from home. Will try and catch the final stages at our usual TdF Final Stage pub, in Woolacombe. Am I excited? A little. The wife loves cycling, so she's well hyped.
bear-uk 17
I will have a 3 mile walk into town (Roads closed) to watch the finish in Harrogate.

Drugs wont give a human 8 litre lungs Very true. But they do increase the efficiency of lungs, the ability for the heart to sustain increased stressloads, the rate of ATP production, the amount of haemoglobin (and thus oxygen) in the blood. They also increase the number of nerves that fire in the muscle thus increase the number of muscle fibres contracting. They increase the ability of the body's recovery rate, and much more. I'm not taking away anything from the Champions! The top 5 in ANY sport would always be the top 5, whether the sport was full of drugs, or there were no drugs involved. The difference is that with drugs, they are so much more impressive. Think about Lance Armstrong. He had phenominal bike handling skills, a grit/determination to ride on with broken bones, trained like a psychopath, and an attitude that was awful towards everyone else but perfect to create a champion! If there was no drugs in cycling, Armstrong would still have been number 1. The thing is, EVERYONE in TdF is on drugs, and he was still the champion. Of all people around, I am the last one to say that performance enhancing drugs are bad. I'm all for them really. But I just don't like the way that sports portray they are all drug free.
