Matthew Phillips 36
Hi guys, Got a 4stroke engine going that would be useful for flushing the rats. We've tried making it smoke but it struggles to run when we mix in oil with the fuel... only paid a tenner for it so not overly fussed but is better than using the 2stroke strimmer we currently use! What options we got for getting it smoking? Thanks Quote Link to post

BIG G wheton machine 1,594
It's to do with the cycles in the engine every 2 nod stroke is a bang with a 2 stroke and the oil is burnt off so in a 4 stroke it will oil the plug up quickly, Quote Link to post
wirral countryman 2,110
Big G has it spot on, you need a 2 stroke motor and run it with a little more oil than normal, easy as p*ss, good luck, WM Quote Link to post
TOPPER 1,809
forget oil use a bit of diesel in with the petrol that will make you 4 stroke smoke but a 2 stroke is better 1 Quote Link to post

CorkyJohn 808
Just run the engine as it should be, the fumes are more than adequate for bolting rats Quote Link to post
s.e.s.k.u 1,893
Fumes aren't all visible. .it will still make the rats bolt. .atb sesku Quote Link to post

Thanks looks like you are having a bit fun with the rats lads.get shot of you 4 stroke waist of time and too much chew on,try and get yourselves an old still saw or chain saw, strip the blades off get some pipe welded on to the exhaust and attach some rubber pipe from car engine jobs a good one.no need for extra oil in the mix normal mix is more than good enough, lot of rats in shallow sets will bolt with the vibration of the saw,to much smoke kills a lot of rats in the holes if they become over intoxicated .good luck ATB Keith j. 1 Quote Link to post
Marcos 44
Mate we use 4 stroke motors on our fumigators for rabbit control, so to get smoke get a tank of oil and set it up to drip onto/into the exhaust, ours has a hole drilled into the exhaust with a hose running from the oil tank to exhaust. This creates a heap of smoke and is easy to regulate, ie more smoke turn the tap on more, we use the smoke to find all the holes then turn on the poison which takes care of the rabbits. Hope this makes sense. Here in Australia they are vermin and are in huge numbers at times so control is not only necessary but is a legal requirement enforced heavily by Govt agencies. And he certainly don't won't to be using poisons around his Dogs normal fumes can be bad enough, horses for courses bud. 2 stoke still saws et. Are tried and tested methods and can be chucked about a bit no f.,,ing on adding this and that. All the same good luck with your methods down under atb Keith j. 1 Quote Link to post
