Rabbithunter 456
Is there any advantages/disadvantages of lamping out a 4x4? Is it true that lads throw the dogs out the windows/doors whilst at speed in pursuit of their quarry? Is it lazyness or are these lads seeing more rabbits than the lads who walk? just curious Quote Link to post

South hams hunter 8,986
Before the ban foxing from a 4x4 was a good advantage. Spot one then go a few fields on and call. Or being on the back of the truck could spot the game without having to enter the field, depends on the land. Down here where we have small fields I found/find it a great advantage Quote Link to post

Can certainly cover more ground an so put more in front of the dogs, also can keep stuff in the beam for longer. Don't mind it occaisionally but walkings the real "traditional" way IMO Cheers, D. 1 Quote Link to post

Prefer to walk and watch the wildlife. have you heard of somebody running their dog over? My lil whippet cross bitch ran into a landy at full speed. Landy was completely stationary but rabbit headed for it, she broke her neck in 3 places and her mouth was a right mess Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
My mate did rabbit hunter... nasty. I know it will probably occur. I heard of a lad round here that done it... the dog and quarry went through a gateway and he followed full bore, dog must of loat its game and was coming back when it met the 4track in the gateway Quote Link to post

Rabbithunter 456
you will put more in front of dog lamping from motor, sorry, i missed this one. that seems to be the general thought of the 4x4 lads. Quote Link to post
TOMO 28,404
Yeh rabbits can be tricky somtimes from the truck,,, going round a field clockwise,,,next to the hedge,,, they will often run underneath ,,,or round the back,,, it handy to have a spotlight on the back of the truck you can switch on ...
