Revamped Flights.

Recommended Posts

Had a bit of a change around with my flights and have put them in a row for this year, the wooden frames are getting tierd and so next year i'll do a complete rebuild and concrete base etc.But for now this is what i have put up,it's a bit wonky and gaps filled in with trim but all a tape measure and spirit level would have done is p*ss me off even more as i'm no woodworker in any way  ,anyway it's bird proof and i have 2 greenfinches and a chinese quail sat on eggs so the bird are happy with it so job's a good un to me  .Now some of you sharper eyed feckers will see i have to go through every flight to get to the next one and carrying a water can and food stuff is awkward but i love going into my flights and have done so everyday i have kept birds so there very much used to it and my biggest hassle with it all is trying to stop the bullfinches coming through the doors early when i have a few branches of buds for them, there that pleased to see me,or the buds anyway  .

Ive realised birds couldnt give a shit what is pleasing to our eye.......they seem just as happy having a bath in a paint roller tray as an expensive purpose made bird bath from the garden centre :D ............my guess is the breeding season will indicate how happy they are with their surroundings.........but by the looks of it a lot of thoughts gone into them aviaries Fireman doubt theres anything more a bird could want for in there

No question is daft Mick, questions help us learn mate  but yes they do,there all native finches in there so they can handle the weather ok,just provide a bit of cover for them to get in out the wind, foodwater etc and away you go.During the winter or non breeding months all these birds mix together in mixedflights without to much hassle, you get the odd squabble over the best perches etc but generaly there is no major issues.

Stig that kettle was going to go into the hedgerow for just that but those flowers started to grow so i hung it up to see what they areif it's just chickweed or something else bird edible it will be hung up in one of the flights .

Very true Gnasher, those plastic bowls do my head in to look at as they don't look very tidy but when i fill them those birds are straight in them, splashing around and like you say they couldn't give a shit if they were pink with blue spots and you are so right about the breeding results and general well being of them all as to how happy they are and so far so good,

Thanks for all the comments and i will admit to sitting out in front of them every day with a smile like a cheshire cat on me face and again i know i am a lucky chappy :victory:
