bird 10,014
Had few lose them but never removed by vet. Made no difference imo that's what I thought, Blaze my colliex grey I had in the late 80s, was ripping is off a lot of times.Iused to just cut the bit hanging off , clean with warm salt water+drop of tcp and he was ok after till he did it again lol. one day he run a fox down the lane, then across a school playground. He nailed the fox there, killed it but bloody hell ripped his left stopped nearly in 1/2, but that's how he was all or nothing with him. the big chief 3,099
one of mine ripped his it was hanging off trip to the vets got it right off made no difference but every so often he would graze it bad so i used to just wrap it in vet tape before an outing that was him back on track Quote Link to post
jhiggins 48
Mine still has her dew claws as well, I was hoping to get them removed at the same time as they are always getting damaged. Will the vets do it without an injury there, anyone had it done to their mutts??? Quote Link to post

skycat 6,174
Get it taken off completely: it will never heal properly and even if it looks as though it has stuck itself back down, it is likely to open up again when the dog runs hard: the amount of flexing on the leg in that area is immense. I've seen a few dogs without stoppers: their owners always taped them up with strong stretchy sticking plaster padded with a bit of sponge before running: makes sense as the leg is much more prone to damage without the stopper to protect the tendons and bones, especially on hard ground.
