Dad throws weight behind Daily Record 'Stop the Danger Dogs' campaign after son, five, is mauled by year-old puppy

DOCTORS fear Brian Adamson's son Eighan will be scarred for life as they lost count of the number of stitches needed to reattach his skin after the unprovoked attack.

Eighans face bears scars of Shar Peis unprovoked mauling

LITTLE Eighan Adamson could bear these shocking scars for life after being savaged by a PUPPY.

Eighan, five, had his face ripped open by the one-year-old dog in an unprovoked attack.

The mauling left him with horrific injuries, including gashes millimetres from his eye and across the bridge of his nose.

He also suffered cuts to his head and jaw during the fearsome attack last Wednesday.

Doctors say he will be scarred for life and he needed so many stitches they lost count as they tried to reattach his skin.

Dad Brian, 31, spoke out yesterday to warn other parents that even very young dogs can pose a danger to their children.

And he threw his weight behind the Records campaign for better controls on dogs, including compulsory licensing and microchipping.

Eighan, a P1 pupil at East Kilbrides St Hilarys Primary School, was set upon at his mum Karina Erskines home in Bellshill, Lanarkshire.

Karina was in her kitchen when Shar Pei Charlie pounced on Eighan without warning in the hall.

After being rushed to Wishaw General Hospital, Eighan spent the next two nights in Glasgows Yorkhill Sick Kids Hospital.

Police took the dog away to be destroyed.

Eighan had countless stitches inserted

Last night, Brian, who is separated from Karina, said: The dog that did the damage was just a year old. I believe Eighans mum was in the kitchen and Eighan was in the hall and it basically just attacked him.

He has a bad scar on the back of his head. He has a scar on his jawline, through his nose, and his forehead has been left scarred as well.

It was a bad attack but he is doing not bad. He has been playing with his toys but I think he is very traumatised.

After seeing the devastation to his only sons face, Brian, who has Eighan five days a week while Karina looks after him for two, battled to keep his emotions in check.

He added: When I went in to see him in hospital, it all caught up with me and I had to fight to hold back the tears it is a horrifying situation for any parent to find themselves in.

I was trying to find out how many stitches Eighan has. The doctors say they dont actually count them any more, but if they were to do so, they would probably lose count he has so many.

The Shar Pei, famed for its wrinkled face, was originally bred for fighting, is extremely strong and requires firm training.

Brian added: I got a phone call from Karinas boyfriend on Wednesday to say Eighan had been attacked.

I rushed down to Wishaw Hospital to see him. He was all bandaged up, and at first it looked horrific.

When I first saw Eighan, I was terrified. His head was completely covered in bandages, and he looked in a poor way.

The plastic surgeons came over from the Southern General and it looks like they have done a good job. I just hope he heals up and makes a full recovery.

I want parents to know even family pets can be dangerous. More people need to know that although they can seem nice and friendly most of the time, they can change in a second like this one did, with terrifying consequences.

The Record is doing a great job trying to get the laws changed regarding dangerous dogs. Its not before time, and we need something to be done before more children are hurt in this way.

As a result of the Daily Record dogs campaign, Alex Salmond has launched a consultation on changing the law on dogs.

The Government are asking for views on microchipping all dogs, introducing a licence fee and increasing fines for irresponsible dog owners and breeders.

Salmonds blueprint is a victory for mums Tracy Cox, Veronica Lynch and Zoe Hall.

The three women, whose children were victims of dog attacks, held a summit with the First Minister.

Veronica, from Dundee, is still haunted by the death of her daughter Kellie, who was killed by two rottweilers in 1989.

Tracys daughter Broagan McCuaig, eight, and Zoes daughter, four-year-old Sophia Bell, were badly hurt in attacks by dogs this year.

They gonna add shar pei's to the list now? ...

Hardly a 'dangerous breed'..... infact.... what the fcuk is a 'dangerous breed'? ...

More like 'dangerous owners'!

It is a fighting dog.

Common sense should say that if you have a potentially aggressive breed, you shouldn't leave it unsupervised with children until its temperament has been well and truly established.

They blame the dog here when really it is the owner.

Exactly, not had a lot of experience with Shar Peis but the three I have seen, every single one has been a dodgy fecker.

One belonged to an ex neighbour this dog decided it was going to attack the sire of my staff and the Shar Pei came off a lot worse, the lad asked me to help clean it up ect so I did... Boy did this dog growl, struggle and generally try to tear into me, the lad had it pinned down with all his weight.. This dog never forgot and would launch itself at me every single time it saw me until it got to the point where I said if that dog comes near me or my kids well you get the impression so did he and he had it put down straight away.

See when I was reading it and the mothers boyfriend phoned the dad to tell him, I was waiting on him going off his rocket at them. Can you imagine if your ex got a dog like that and it mauled your son? I wouldn't be giving it, all dogs need chipped that's for sure. I'd be restrained in the BarL

Its not on the dangerous dogs list....

Therefore... 'not dangerous' ...

The whole 'act' is a joke.... any dog that bites...or is dangerous... whether it be a shitzu or a great dane... should be dealt with in the same way...

Not label specific breeds....

When the owners are to blame.

my mate had a shar pei for years, his old one was a lovely dog but could be a bit funny if she didnt no you, infact she would come running at me and barking at me everytime i turned up at the farm but once she realised it was me she just wanted fuss. once she died he paid a f**cking fortune for another, i mean £1800!! for a pup and this ones the same now barks like mad running at you aggressivly but soon realises its me and want a fuss. i love play fighting with them lol just grab the skin and throw them about rough housing. but they are very dominent of other dogs and his were always the boss of all the farm dogs and need a firm hand in training. his is brill with his kids and very protective of them. i have no dout that this is a lack of training and allowing the dog to think its to far up the hierachy! they are cute as pups but you cant moly coddle them and let them think they are above their station! poor kids copped for it and the dogs been destroyed. she wants a kick in the c*nt for allowing it to happen jmo

The standards people expect from parents is too low IMO,this wasn't an accident there is someone clearly at fault.

I didn't see any mention of her being investigated for neglect,or causing harm to her child through neglect.

Lets just ban all dogs instead so unavoidable acts of god like this don't happen anymore.

Too true mate. It adds weight to wee ecks campaign though if the dogs solely to blame. Most of the dumb housewifes will agree with him. Our sport is getting threatened by these moronic owners, it's only a matter of time before its licensed and you'll need to justify why you want a dog over 19tts.
