socks 32,253
Sledgehammer to crack a nut. I don't know mate ... If that is designed to be used in the north of Alaska or Yukon way then you would need something robust that could take the amount of snow that's going to be settling on it ... And if that is treated every year then that's got to last a lifetime ... I could be a little biased as I do like a well made kennel ...........

trenchfoot 4,243
I'd be concerned over condensation in that, but like the concept
forest of dean redneck 12,023
Bit of an overkill that, dogs just going to try jumping up it,use the barrel with couple lengths of wood as feet to keep it off the ground.
jigsaw 11,902
what about if you packed around the sides with insulation??I think its a neat looking job, might talk to a chippy friend of mine and ask what it might cost to knock together.
forest of dean redneck 12,023
Why bother,I used barrel as kennels in way I said above good armful of straw, dogs go in turn round couple times and bed down, They won't soak water up like wood, and my dogs didnt like chewing them like the wood ones either . Get It couple inches off ground, point the opening away from the wind and rain ,if the dogs got a good coat on it ,it won't need anything else.

gnipper 6,880
I've tried barrels in the past and the condensation did my head in, I ended up drilling loads of holes in the bottom of it and putting a ply floor in above that so the dog wasn't lying in the damp but still had problems with it so got rid.
jigsaw 11,902
mine are in the oak whiskey barrels at the minute, plenty of room and very warm too.full of straw and too thick to chew.just thought these looked a handy job,but maybe in warmer climates.
