Matt Smith 143
Well I'd been out twice on the farm and both times managed to bag a rabbit, both in tricky conditions. I'd arranged to take Daz39 along with me last night, it'd been pretty nice (cold but calm) for a few days but yesterday was aweful! Driving rain, strong winds etc... The forecast said it would stop raining about 3 so we decided we'd go anyway. Sure enough the rain had stopped, but the wind made shooting impossible on the fields. The worst part is the fields had rabbits on the size of baby elephants! The only shelter was along the edge of the quarry but even that was still a little gusty. After a coffee break we decided to do the quarry line, after only a few minutes I light one up, quickly turn the lamp off and start to stalk, check again to make sure it was still there, then stalk a little further. I get to 30 yards, get settled on the shooting sticks 1st, turn the lamp on and it's still sat. I calm myself down, breathe then take the shot, it drops like a brick on the spot, It started moving a little so Daz takes off like Linford Cristie with me behind him to make sure it's despatched. Even with a pellet through it napper it was twitching and bouncing, Daz went to pick it up and it's body convulsed, He nearly had a heart attack haha. All in all, a very hard and frustrating night due to the wind. Saying that, I'd rather be out in the wind than sat in watching TV. We covered a hell of a lot of miles last night, my legs are killing me today. I'll let Daz tell you about the 3 on the hill that took the piss out of him Edited December 28, 2013 by Matt Smith 4 Quote Link to post

Daz39 962
Cracking night out but damn me comedy rabbits and some the size of houses! Chased 3-4 rabbits up a hill on 4 occasions, each time the dang things mirrored my movements. I go forward 2 steps, they go back 2. I move left 4 steps, they go right 4 steps, honestly the most infuriating rabbits ever. Chased them round and round in circles at one point. At the end, Matt spots them again "your rabbits are waiting for you Daz" Ahhhh FFS, off I trot. After 15 mins shadow boxing with them they leg it in total western fashion. One runs up the hill to be silhouetted perfectly against the sky, stands up on two legs like a damn horse rearing up! Looked amazing but felt like he was just taking the piss. Never seen rabbits that big, but then, they don't get that big sitting waiting to be shot, clever bunnies but we'll have them soon. If mac gets one of the big ones, it will take both of you to carry it back to the car, though it will feed you for a month. My legs are dead mind, must have walked 10 miles in the 7 hours we were out!! Cheers Matt, loved it even if the wind and my aim were off!! 1 Quote Link to post
