Timber Storage

Recommended Posts

in the last few weeks Ive been drawing timber of all shapes and sizes for firewood.bloody hard graft at times.I now realise I need to get proper drying if I want to use it properly.I have limited space as the kennels take up most of the back garden,so has anyone got any photos or ideas in this department.Ive looked through youtube but everyone on there have a few acres to set up storage, was thinking of getting canvas or lorry covers and just covering and tying down but I dont want the place looking like a kip either.I have a few attic water tanks full of timber and another load stacked 8 ft high x 8 ft in length and 4 ft wide but its pissing rain at the minute and the timbers getting soaked,So any help would be much appreciated.I was thinking of the timber potatoe boxes, what ye reckon?

Potato crates with a sheet of tin over the top I don't bother covering my logs tbh just all in piles and left like that , rain water don't make much difference it's the sap what needs to dry out

forget all that shite, buy an 8lb spliting axe and whack the shit out of that pile of timber, like real men used to.bunch of fannys lol

You could make you'd own poly tunnel, As said rain water isn't a drastic problem, it wets the edge of the logs but doesn't really soak through. I just keep a few piles by the log burner to dry them f

This....although we don't know what potato crates are in Stockport....just cover them with a sheet and let them dry naturally depending on the thickness of the wood. Logs will take a year.

Plenty of airflow, and a cover to keep rain off. Sheet of tin or some membrane or other. Off the ground also is ideal. Pallet, bearers. A neat stack of wood is not unpleasant to look in my mind, farmers round here have it down to an art, 50 60 metre long stacks at 1.5 high and 1 metre wide (1 metre lengths). thats..... 4 - 5000 euros....

Just bought a cube today 60 euros, all oak offcuts from a barrel plank supplier.

Might need to buy in for the next year as hopefully fitting a wood boiler for rads etc, but got a few acres of woodland now, just need to get a bit felled and keep at it.

poly tunnel, open at both ends. lets the timber dry out, allows heat from the sun in to accelerate this over the summer and good ventilation. works a treat on large or small scale

do polytunnels come in 8 ft lengths lol.I DONT THINK SO  .the lack of space is my problem,I have little or no space left and loads of timber.I might have a go at making (god help me )a few racks from pallets.I surely can bang a few nails in without making a complete balls of it  cant I?Im a fekin disaster with wood work/carpentry/handy man shit.lol...I have a lot of ash and oak and holly and gorse stems, and a load of spruce thrown in too.All for free.as long as I keep shooting the goats then I have a supply of timber and a nice few bottles of poteen, and before you jump to conclusions I dont EVER drink the stuff.

Sorry jigsaw, didn't read it properly. Potato crates look a cracking idea. If you throw a clear plastic sheet over the top and leave the ends of the box uncovered it's not dissimilar in concept to a poly tunnel

thanks everyone for the input, chid I have a few bottles here and im at a loss what to do with them.I think a few x mass pressies might be the answer...I have the van full at the moment of timber but its pissin rain all day and I'll have to get the rain gear on in the morning and clear the lot.Its costing me a fortune on diesel draging that load about.
