johnny boy68 11,726
The judges didn't come into it, seemed like he hurt his hip in the first knockdown.

stealthy1 3,964
Their saying it might end his career, thats harsh.
DannyMc 143
What a shame,it finished before it got started, just one of those punches that took everything away from him, think whatever way he went down finished the fight, what a likeable man Barker is,humble and a winner at the same time. Was surprised he took the fight in Germany(good dough?),being a champion and Chelsea supporter could this not have happened at Stamford bridge?
gnasher16 31,602
Just got back from the fight this aftenoon it was a real shame the way it went but not really surprising Darrens been on borrowed time for a while now its a miracle his career has lasted as long as it has......i boxed with his dad Terry as amateurs the whole family came through the Repton club real decent people.....the heartache with his brother has been well documented but what hasnt been well documented is the heartache Darren has had with injuries he has weak joints and must of had 6 or 7 operations on shoulders, elbows and hips over the years he has never been able to get himself in as good shape as other fighters can as his body just cant take it....which makes the Geale fight all that more amazing really as he won a world title fight on heart alone......its such a shame because he has the ability and will to win that true champions need his body just isnt up to it......i very much doubt we,ll ever see him in a ring again. gnasher16 31,602
There was a fair few left stuck at the airport by all accounts ...but yes probaby close to a thousand though the atmosphere wasnt great as the venue was too big for the event really. I dont think anybody thought Sturm had a performance like that in him he just looked so sharp and i have my doubts if even a 100% fit Barker would of beat him.....Darrens always been technically good, carried decent power and had a big heart.........but again, due to his fragile body has always been a bit one paced i think Sturm knew if he started at a really fast pace Darren wouldnt be able to switch gears...............its a real shame as he,s such a nice kid and its so frustrating when your mind is right but your body just lets go.......he knew he didnt have long left in the game hence why he took a big payday in Germany rather than a few easy low money defences at home.
