Utility Bills

Recommended Posts

i was listening to the news the other night and they were saying utility bills will have to increase every year for at least the next seventeen years to pay for renewal of the aging infrastructure, is it just me that finds this odd as surely it should be the companies and their investors who should pay for this as they are the ones receiving huge payouts each year, if it was still nationally owned i could understand it :hmm:

The British taxpayer has already paid for the maintenance and replacement, of the infrastructure, several times over.

The Thatcher government handed it all over, free of charge to the utility companies, when the Tory government began it's privatisation run.

Utility companies were given millions of miles of pipe and cable for free. All on the taxpayer.

Well done Westminster.

yep we sold the water gas etc because the tax payer could not afford to up grade the systems so the private sector would be footing the bills this was one of the ( lies) sorry reasons we had to sell.as ever the family silver sold off to cheaply to the ex classmates of those in power at the time this includes tory and labour party

China doesn't have to fork out millions of pounds to subsidise inefficient windmills. The chinese are building coal fired power stations that can produce cheap electricity when its needed. Over here for example, Cameron's father in law makes around £1000 per day just for allowing wind turbines to be sited on his land and it's you and I who pay for these handouts through "green" subsidies added to our bills. Once again the poor pay to enrich the better off!

The other thing I don't get is how they are saying "nuclear" is the clean option..... !!!!!

Yeah, it only takes 8000 years for the waste to break down enough not to kill you as quickly as it may have done......we are one tiny island and if one of those station go's boss eyed like Fukishima we are in deep shit!!

i think both chernobyl and fukushima somewhat dispels that theory  they really do think were all mushrooms

I don't think the world fully grasped how bad Chernobyl was matey, there's still aircraft and trucks sitting there too radioactive to go near !!! After what? Nearly 20 odd years?

I think if we let them build a load more on an island as small as we are then we are mental.

It's clean energy in terms of the emissions. This all originates from acid rain and the hysteria about fossil fuels. Modern coal plants can also be fairly clean as well. Chernobyl should never have happened, it was a foolish experiment and not done under the correct conditions. Fukushima was an ancient reactor and was only the result of the huge Tsunami...something we're not likely to get in the UK. We should have been building nuclear along time ago so we are not in the ridiculous situation we have now. At the same time we need to be investing in a diverse energy policy, the policy of the last 20 years has been hiding our heads in the sand, ignoring the future because of the political backlash and nimby-ism and a cult like obsession with green energy.

its the same with fukushima the effects are not just radioactive, the loss of production in there blue chip industry has a worldwide effect, you check out the price of hard drives before the disaster and now, only a small example but it does prove theres more to power stations that just power.

and i'm sure someone said this was an impossibility before it happened

In a previous life I had a "proper" job once working with radio active material, I am we'll aware of the effects of radio active material on human beings.

They used to offer us a whole years wages to go and work on the reactor at Sellafield, couple of days work.......sounds attractive right?

Not really because you got your whole years dose of radiation in those couple of days and couldn't work the rest of the year......it's also accumulative so it's not like you get a dose and it wears off, it just keeps building up in your body attacking your cell structure.

I know of one lad took the bait for the whole year wages gig, he did it for a few years running......he was fine but after being born his kids developed lukemia!!!

Yeah, real clean.......
