I believe this is a popular cross with heroin users.

i've seen all sorts make decent workers, some had short necks others cow hocks, some had turned out elbows others had all of the above and more but i always asked the question......how much better wou

got one and its the best we worker ive got never stops working got a head to big for its body somebody said it was a horrible we thing couldnt give a f--k how they look as long as they do what their

If seen some horrific looking mutts do well, but if I'm honest most the good dogs I've seen have looked good as well, but these are working dogs, we should never forget that, yeah we all have preferences but they must work, and I personally want the best I cam have, after all I pick it's shit up, o feed it walk it and spend every minute away from me family either sorting them, sorting stuff for them or grafting them, I doubt my dogs care what I look like as I give them graft, as long as they graft to the best of there ability then I don't care if they look like bin tipping 3rd world mongrels, the old saying goes God loves a trier, not God loves a stunner lol I'm a fan of working dogs whatever the size shape or job, I'm not a fan of vanity lol

it be the most out of proportion thing going if it was at the top of there game id happy have a pup

I know what you are saying but could a out of proportion thing realistically be a great dog?

All the things I've said I like in a dog go towards making it that athlete. Not in EVERY case I know but surely most of the time.

I mean. You wouldn't see a genetically small man pumped with steroids in world strong man. They are all naturally big men with backs and shoulders like a garden shed.

You wouldn't see a racing Jockey built like a brick shithouse.

There are certain physical attributes that make a running dog a running dog in my opinion.

A poem I read a good few years ago describing a running dog went something like...

Head like a snake

Neck like a drake

Foot like a cat

Tail like a rat

Back like a beam

Sides like a bream

I can't recall the full poem. It was 15th century if I recall.

On paper the theory is all well and good, but ugly dogs have proved over and over again they can and do get jobs done, maybe they were just never told they were ugly lol spend enough time in field and you see things that should never have happened, that one of the reasons I keep doing what I do, you just never know...

i like a good looking dog.there was a time when i first started when the number of rabbits i caught ment more to me than anything and at that time i would own any kind of dog as long as it was catching big number.i coundnt care if the dog ran backwards and looked like a yetty as long as it caught..........but now numbers dont mean that much to me and although i eat allot of what i catch now i don't need the dog to put food on the table so i don't have to put up with a ugly mutt that can catch everything in site lol i can own a smart looking dog what catches enough to keep me happy.like been said theres nowt worse than feeding and owning a dog for 10-14 years what you just carnt bond with.

so you cant bond with a ugly dog lol is it all about looks with your dogs do you boys show your dogs ?

your missing MY point and my point is i don't have to have a ugly dog......if i went to look at pups and didn't like what i saw i wouldn't buy....if for a reason i needed to buy something in as it was half way through season and some one offered me a dog i didn't like the look of it would i buy it...........no would i feck. why simple because i don't need to.........i hunt because i enjoy it and sport...............and my passion isn't to have the best dog in the world.its to have a dog i enjoy been around and like hunting with that catches enough to keep ME happy.....and to answer your question can i bond with an ugly dog...then yes i could but why would i have to.....ive been lucky enough that pups i pick tend to turn out prity smart looking dogs

I'll throw my hat in here and agree with what gaz and bullx100% said.

It's like women, plug ugly munters are a joy to ride and work hard for you but who the f**k wants to be seen with one?

I like a good looking proportioned dogs fit for my purpose been the same the last 20yrs with bulls and I'm not gonna change for lurchers and yes I have shown dogs not that it makes any difference.

Best worker you'd seen but pot ugly, or best looking average worker you ever did see, what would you guys in to lookers pick to breed from or own?

To own would be the best looking average worker.

Breeding would be opening a whole new can of worms I think.

I started off talking about disproportioned dogs. Could a seriously disproportioned dog really be the best worker youve ever seen?

Length of back, tail, shape of feet, size of chest and neck all contribute to making a good worker. Dont they?

Could a dog with a narrow chest, funny feet, oversized head, short back and short tail really be an outstanding running dog worthy of breeding?

Either way, good debate lads

Hey Gaz, leave my dog out of this debate  , pups will be available soon :tongue2: , buster.

looks good bad or indifferant never put anything in the freezer . a good looking one can be useless just as a ugly looking cur put together all wrong looks wise can be a worldbeater .same as feet some of the worst toe injuries ive ever had with running dogs have been with the ones with so called perfect cat like feet . looks dont mean a thing in the feild and never has imo . after saying that i do like a nice looking lurcher even slow the car sdown when driving past one to get a better look .
