Just get on the net mate,, bbc good food site is ok for recipe's,,, you will find plenty for pastry,,, just decide what you want,,puff,,short crust ,, ect,,, personally I think short rust is best for

Will you be Father Christmas for me this year Tomo? Those pies look as good as the ones my mum used to make :thumbs:

There easy really ,,, just a good rabbit stew,,, let it reduce to the right consistency ,, then pastry from the supermarket ,,

Oh, but that's cheating :tongue2::laugh: Half the art is in the pastry making, and I'm not a lot of good at that. For the record, half lard and half butter makes a great short pastry. Main problems are caused by making the pastry too wet: turns out like tough cardboard.

Hot water crust pastry is the one to use and you have to make it your self.

My dad makes an amazing game pie using this. They're about 6 inches deep. I supplied most of the birds that went in it and was expecting a bit more than a couple of slices but the family decimated the bloody thing last Christmas and there was nothing left.

Blind bake means baking the bottom of the pastry in the pie dish ,,,you put the pastry in,, then put grease proof paper on top,,, then some dried beans,, I think you can youse rice,,, or you can buy special beads made from pottery,, these weight the pastry down in the pie dish,, otherwise it puffs up like a poperdom..

But to be honest I never blind bake the bottom,, just get the pastry in ,, then the filling,, then get the pastry lid on,,, egg wash it,, and bake for about 45 mins

Butter only short crust pastry,if you've got hot hands use a blender and don't forget to blind bake the bottom first.

Blind bake the what now??:laugh:
What tomo said, just ensures the bottom is cooked and sealed before you put your chosen filling in.

Some do some don't :)
