There's some dodgy gene that CAN but doesn't always come out in silvers (think it's just the badger marked animals), that in summary means they aren't all there. Bred 2 such creatures 10-15 years ago, from a top silver Jill, to a top of the range albino hob, both kits used to go to sleep in burrows, then at the age of probably 2 they became nippy, and by the age of 3 they looked as if they'd had strokes and subsequently died, some of the non silver litter mates were quality animals, and stopped until dug to. There's a great article some where of ferret genetics that'll back this up. You think that relates to colour? .... And not just the genetics from the parents?.... Sure...in the whole world... somebody has had a poley thats done that...and a sandy...and a BEW... Sounds as if there's loads of mixed opinions Wouldn't have brought up the topic if i didn't think there was a good amount of truth to it. i've been told and have read this about silvers somewhere but it was amongst other info about ferrets ive just never stopped to really think about it. few mates i have don't keep silvers because apparently they've got nothing but grief off them in more ways than one as i haven't kept a silver I dont have any first-hand experience. All my workers have been poley and sandy and come from parents of the same colour. The silver jill am being offered is 15 months and has never seen a warren but she's well handled and doesn't nip (yet?) lol Quote Link to post

Hence why my son called her 'snowy' .... At 7 months now... shes darker and more of a silver.... Quote Link to post
