Very new....

'Made' my own end of last season...from sheet netting....

And was gifted end pins(smithie)..hazel poles (albert64)....wooden pegs(tiercel)...10 yards of netting(the one)...50 yards of netting(jamesmc).. and a loan of the 'from peg to peg' book...(borderscot)...

Used them for ferreting...and extremely impressed....

Tried it out... nightime last week.... and got feckall... tried it out the other night...and got 2...

I will however be using them for ferreting mainly....

So thanks to everybody who helped me and gave me a nudge....

Your advice doesnt fall on deaf ears  ...

I bought my first nets in 1983, I used them in the day when ferreting at first. When I started to use them in the night, it took me about six trips before I caught my first rabbits. I was running two dogs lamping at that time and I approached night netting as I would lamping. (Big mistake) It was only when I looked at why I was not catching rabbits that I realised I was approaching it all wrong. I changed the way I approached a drop and started catching rabbits with them.

I have never had big numbers with them ten is the most I have had in a drop, the usual varies from one to five or six. It has never been about the numbers though, to get in behind one rabbit and catch it has always given me a buzz.

About a decade or so, my preferred webbing is a double stranded 25 yds traditional net. I use it for ferreting, night time and summer evenings, I like to run a net in front of a warren and let the dogs hunt the crops and cover to push bunnys into the net, I've had 17 from 1 place ferreting, 8 out the crops and 22 at night but I average more like a few a drop. Peg to peg is a cracking book for netters, I do miss the chats I used to have with the author, the man was a true gent and helped me loads, keep setting them webs lads it's better than sitting on the couch lol

No Idea, first longnet I saw used was with my dad and his mate when I was about 10 years old so about 30 years ago. But I have been using them myself over the last 10 years or so, mainly daytime for ferreting. However I have had several night time forays which have given me a few rabbits, more for the buzz than to get big numbers. Love the traditional style nets these days for lack of bulk etc, but you cant beat a pre set for speed or laying larger nets.

Got my first quickset two seasons ago and in all honesty I would never go ferreting without them now. I haven't used them at night as I like to lamp with the dogs but for ferreting they are a god send. Ive been able to do large burrows in cover ect that purse netting just was not possible,so ive been able to clean up rabbits that other ferreters just can't. Don't know exactly how many rabbits ive caught in the quicksets the last two seasons but its been a lot. And more importantly its been rabbits we would have normally missed or not bothered with. I rate my quicksets very highly for ferreting and I very rarely put many purse nets down these days other than for hole hoppers ,, as for traditional I just cant comment.
