This is not about wages its about being shafted and the public being fed spin! Massive cuts are coming and that entails loss of life and property, the majority of what we do(job wise) will never touch the ruling classes lives and hopefully none of you!! Not saying it is mate just making a comparison ... I know exactly how the OP feels and the folk on here saying its a lifestyle thing are right and also wrong ... When people like the OP and myself joined the army fire service etc we knew what we were doing knew our pay and knew what our pension would be ... The problem he has is the government are now moving those goal posts just as they did with the army pension only difference is you can't go on strike in the army you have to swallow it ... But if shit happens do you want a long wait for a second rate chance of survival or a prompt skilled service! i thought this was about pensions and fitness to serve not quality of service. if you're unfit to serve then what do you expect, but to be discharged, so that just leaves the pension issue !!. if these pensions were agreed then they should be honoured but if they are subsequently changed then it should apply to new recruits as they will already be aware of the new pensions prior to joining Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Bear in mind there are two oil refineries and two massive LNG terminals here that handle 25% of the UK's natural gas supply right on our doorstep.. Now the army is decimated and green godesses sold there is no back up diciplined enough, WE do not want a stike but will not bend over and take it dry!! He left around a year ago, took early pension at 55. in his words 'not the brigade i joined, going down the shitter' amongst other, not very PC things that i wont voice on here. He was in the forces at the first strike years ago, and in the fire brigade on the other side of the fence 30 years later haha! In my opinion 30k a year basic wage isnt too much to ask. the list of jobs they do is endless, not just fire calls, but pulling bodies from rivers, RTC's etc. i can understand the 'you know the job you signed up for' mentality, but i also dislike that mentality. You sign up for job security, the greater good, possibly the excitement of the job.
