Cheers ss collars have there place, I have had quite a few and still do have one left, his leads are good I wouldnt use anything else tbh, but I don't think you can beat a traditional collar for hunti

Lol yea mate, but is it really necessary? 6,7,8, 10 years from a collar is fine by me

Lol, before I came on this site, I didn't know there was such a big deal in them. Why anyone wants a collar that out lasts there dog is beyond me lol. In saying that, I don't use ferret locators either

i never use collars, saves me a fortune in lost leads

I lost a lead once and found it again two weeks later when I went back to that area.

Though I have lost loads to others by lending them because they have lost theirs... :duh:

Before I met Aaron I used to use either Black Dog or Glynn for my collars, both produce ok leather gear thats reasonably priced.

Harris & Watson are still going Alex, there was a link up on here a while back. ;)

Baz, just as a matter of interest, have you seen the SS lurcher collars? The brown or black with brass fittings are cracking kit, very light weight and made for any size of dog. I've got one on my mutt, forget its there most of the time and looks and is performing as good as when I got it over a year ago. They are well worth a look.

Cheers for the comment bosun, I've not seen his lurcher collars they sound good, anyone have a pic or a link for one.

Leather rots and if you have a strong dog that pulls and your out in all weathers its just a matter of time before it gives its happened to me before ....the SS collars will never give and they don't need to be treated with anything ...the lampin collars with the reflectors on them are a good bit of kit ....leather terrier couples don't last more than a few seasons and they need to be solid for obvious reasons ....One the black dog stand was always up beside the river at scone I noticed also he wasnt there this year

Of course leather will rot if not looked after but to say a big strong dog will snap good leather is laughable. Leather has been used to harness horses for years, is your dog stronger than a horse? Leather saddles, bridles, styrup leathers can become antique pieces they last that long, you think you can only get a couple of years from a leather lead holding back a big strong lurcher?

Leather rots ffs leathers been used for hundreds of years why do mindle and lowas make boots out of leather some of the best boots you can buy! I had a collar on my old dog for 13 yrs never treated it or looked after it and it out lasted him. A good quality collar will out last your dog, I carnt see why some one would want a collar to lat forever there ony cheap I'd rather a nice new collar on a new dog myself not a tatty smelly old thing your last dog wore for 10 plus years! IMO.

I got mates also have had terrier couples for 20 plus years so that's rubbish. Leather is a lot more durable than your making it sound anyone would think your talking about collars made of cardboard lol
