fitchet 788
Im not sure what speed but I try keeping it so there sort of cantering along. Started off only doing 20 mins but there doing about an hours worth of steady trotting along the canal now. Got a fair bit of private road I can use aswell wich is handy. I only have them out on the bike every other night though the rest is steady walking got an app on my phone and on an average walk that I take it's about 14.3 miles. Quote Link to post
jhiggins 48
Started trotting mine and a mates out the back of the van. Nice and steady at just under 10 mph for a couple of miles. One of us sits out the back of the van to keep an eye on them, works well. Nice long private road near us which is handy. I take mine out on the bike when I can, but dont get out as much as id like due to work!! Quote Link to post

robadoo 212
I run with mine , they can keep in a fast trot at approx 8mph ,before they have to break into a canter. So I like to keep them in that hardworking trot from a few miles upto about 10miles , depending at what fitness their at . Quote Link to post
tjones3862 3,423
at the moment im getting away driving the dogs round a grass field, a number of times, its nice and tufty under there feet,,, I do take them on the roads but to be honest, theres no give in tarmac, and it will take its toll on the dogs joints,, the grass side of it, you can get your toe down every now and again, were on the tarmac,,you will skin the dogs feet,,, Edited August 2, 2013 by tjones3862 4 Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
I've never done it for year's now but when i did i had a little speedo on my bike..i would give them 1 mile of the lead to get the shite out of them.. then 3/4 mile at 10/12mph..then another 2 mile of the lead on the way home..that seemed to get the edge on them ready for the true level of fitness which was achieved from working them.. 1 Quote Link to post
jhiggins 48
Is it best to keep them at a trot rather than a canter on the road?? 1 Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
personally yes, prefer them trotting nothing any faster................. Quote Link to post
