How much does the crown estate put into the treasury each year though, genuine question? :hmm:

Steady on with the facts Malt! Lets not let them get in the way of a good old fashioned jealousy driven witch hunt.

Over £200M annualy...................

The tax payer owns the royal estates!! And instead of us getting it all they pocket 33mil of it!! Then we pick up the tab for keeping them safe everywhere they wanna go!! But let not let facts in the way of u enjoying and waving your union jacks at the tv when they left hospital this evening!!

Union Flag!

And the Crown Estate does not 'belong' to the tax payer, it belongs to the Crown which I believe is the personal property of the serving Monarch. The only thing they do not control is the Crown revenue which is controlled by the Treasury.

Think you will find that in 1760 George the 3rd handed the keys over to the treasury!! in exchange he got all his dept wiped and the civil list!! later this was replaced by the sovereign grant act 2011!!! history do you just love it.

Well, actually, to correct you, he didn't hand the keys over, just the control of the Crown revenue. The Crown itself is still the personal property of the Monarch. History is great but taking bits you like and interpretting them wrongly for your own agenda is neither history nor truth.

The Crown Estate is owned by the Queen ‘in right of the Crown’. In other words, in an official capacity. She no more owns the Crown Estate personally than David Cameron owns the flat above 10 Downing Street. If she ceases to be Queen she ceases to ‘own’ the Crown Estate.

The same is true of the royal palaces and the art collection. The same is also true, although in a slightly different way, of the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall. They are only the property of the Queen and the heir respectively so long as those individuals are Queen and heir.

The Crown is something else altogether. The Crown does not ‘belong’ to the Queen. It is an institution of state and it belongs to the nation. Since 1689 parliament has had complete authority over who the Crown passes to and how its powers will be exercised.

Well done for the copy and paste, any chance of the actual link?

The crown jewels, buck house etc etc do not belong to the Crown, they are state owned, but the Crown Estate does belong to the serving Monarch. As long as the Queen is the serving Monarch the Crown estate is her personal property.
