I agree Johnny,he has a good chance his year but with the field at the moment he will have it again next year and the year after,just surprised a welsh man is calling him British

Andy Murray represents GB at Wimbledon, just like a welshmsn would. I've always looked at it like that, Tiger Tim was always British too.lol

 

hope he can do it, he as worked very hard to better his game, just poss 1 big fish to stop him i think, but you never know it could be his year, hope so but pity he aint english lol but as said he british .!

He's just turned 26, I've always followed his career and the last 12 months he just seems stronger and goes for more shots than he would've before Lendl became his coach. Lendl's been his coach for 18 months now and looked what he's achieved, so hopefully with Lendl he's got that focus to win Wimbledon.

 

Regardless of whether he wins Wimbledon or not he'll still be Britain's best ever tennis player. Good luck to the lad I'll be behind him same as ever, this will be the best chance he'll probably get.

 

My knowledge of tennis isnt all that .......but would Murray be regarded as better than Fred Perry then ?.....if Murray never wins Wimbledon i mean.

 

You know what they say about different eras in all sports, when Fred Perry won his titles the levels were real poor, the sport had only just became pro and the world stage wasn't much more than tennis club champions playing each other, poor analogy really but thats the best way I could put it.

 

Fred Perry will always hold that "romantic" view of being the best afterall he won 3 Wimbledon titles and another 5 slams, bit like the boxing though it can be unfair and a little discrediting to compare eras sometimes.

It was funny today that Federer got beat by a guy who was a serve/volley-er and until this era of tennis that was always the way to win wimbledon, Sampras was the last top player who serve/volleyed a lot, perhaps that was what was Federers undoing today, just not used to playing against that style these days.

Murray's always had the talent, its just he happens to be in one of if not the most competitive era of tennis. He achieved a lot last year and that will bode well for his chances this year at Wimbledon.

I'm glad he is playing in the most competitive era, means more when he wins it. As for if he wins it this year with the nadal and federer out, doesn't matter, he's beaten both in the past so has proved he can, be different if he hadnt. I've only seen fleeting games, is that guy with the funny name still in? Think he's Russian or something, Dzinkovixzch or something lol. He's hard to beat. Personally, known Murray and his bad luck, he'll Prob slip and get injured and have to pull out. Never mind, the Dunblane boy has done good, well done the Scottish lad

Good post baw, Rafa and Roger lost there games so IF Murray wins it won't be "hollow" imo. I think if they'd pulled out injured or not been in the tournament then the Murray bashers would've come out and tried to belittle this Wimbledon.

That's the guy mate, he's shit hot. I'm sure he beat Murray in a final recently. If Murray stays injury free, I think that's your final pal. I'd fancy Murray to beat him on home turf. Losing in the final taught him a lot about soaking up the pressure and winning that open has took a lot of the pressure of him. As you said mate, he's a different player under lendils guidance. Before then, Murray thought he was the main man when it came to mangers, at one point he had 2, both too scared to order him about incase they got the bullet. With Ivan, he has someone to look upto and ain't scared to kick him up the arse when he needs it. Would love to see him winning it.

Yeh mate Lendl has really given him that edge he never seemed to have previously, he lost to Djokovic at the Australian open earlier in the year, he's played Novak in 3 Slam finals so far losing 2 and winning 1, so he can beat him.

 

Murray has won at Wimbledon albeit the Olympics but all the top players were still there, so I think the pressure isn't weighing on him like it once was. Theres also the fact that a lot of people have warmed to Murray of late after he broke down after the final you could see what Wimbledon means to him and that documentary the other night showed the lad is human and isn't a dour lad afterall.

Loads of us "Brits" do the same though walsh, theres nothing wrong with being proud of where you're from, the media do there best to try and alienate him though especially with the football thing a few years ago.

 

Certain sports like Athletics and Tennis, the competitors compete as GB and imo they should all be classed has British not Scottish etc, I'm a Welshman that happens to live in GB the same as you're a Englishman who comes from GB.............regardless of where he's from we should all get behind him especially when this country is losing so much of its identity of late.

I agree. I'm English AND British and proud to be both. I'm just saying if he's competing as team GB he should be proud to have the opportunity to fly the British flag. If he was representing Scotland it would be different.
