Standby For Rapid Action!

Recommended Posts

Well last night, through a strange set of happenstance involving a frame with missing parts, a barbecue with a missing grill tray and a wife that won't listen to sensible suggestions, we set off for the town of Doncaster! The object of my desire was residing there after being in the hands of a skilled Theoben PCP expert, namely one Kev G.

Now when I picked this gun up, it had a broken stock, lots of stubborn surface rust on the barrel and silencer as well as a distinct lack of air. Putting air in, I found it to be air tight, however a quick test fire through the chrono revealed it was also a tad over the 12. It needed a service and when firing it made a nice metallic boingggg from the hammer action.

Well we got a new gunstock and after a half hearted attempt the rust was covered over with some camo tape.

Then I found out about Kev and after talking to him we took the gun to him when we had to go to Leeds to see a man about a couple of guns we had spare and a tune up for the wife's HW95! a week later and the Rapid was ready to collect. However the father in law was very ill, so we had to delay it and we managed to finally get away last night to pick it up.

Kev was out when I picked it up, but it was apparent with a dry fire that there were massive improvements. The hammer noise had gone for a start. He had replaced the hammer spring and fitted a spring guide to it, he had also replaced the valve and hammer (so new valve and body and a hammer with a delrin insert to stop that damned boingggg). It became obvious on that dry fire that a little (???) trigger work had been done as well!

The gun was so nice I felt ashamed of the camo tape, so I stripped the gun down (I had to do that anyway because the Dr Bob magazine was fouling the adjuster on the scope, so that had to be moved anyway). I stripped all the camo tape off and with a piece of Scotchbrite and some surgical spirit I set about the barrel and silencer like a dervish. After an hour of determined work the barrel and silencer were clear of rust and adhesive, so I started work with the gun oil and put a few coats of that on.

I thoroughly recommend KevG's work. He is a gentleman to to business with and the changes he has made to my Rapid bear testimony to his reputation! Now I have one Rapid 7 back to top condition and ready to go out into the field!

I've not been able to do anything with Mary's 95 yet but all being well I've got some workshop time booked mid week. I'll keep you posted.

My boys are made up with the Condor and the Xocet has turned out really nice, thanks for that. It took a fair bit of dicking about with a mis-match of parts but I'm very happy with the results!!:D

Good luck with the Rapid, I know they're a properly capable piece of kit when set up right.

Was in leeds myself last night at the Theoben Rapid Meet . You could have dropped it in and we would have done it for nothing , as the guys on our forum do it for the the love of it , not for the money .
