Ian, do you not think it's time that muzzels were compulsory? Most people that race their dogs have them because at most other shows they wont get racing without them!

Shame theres no jumps, it many have sorted a few of those "working " lurchers out...All lurchers should be able to jump on the move

Well lads how much is it into the moira show for 4 adults and a baby mate

You would need to visit www.gamefairireland.com to see how much it would cost into the main fair.

But it will be FREE to attend the Lurcher & Terrier events again this year.

Ian I think you have hit the nail on the head with free admission into the Lurcher/Terrier section, plenty of the boys just go to see the dogs and to be honest with the amount of doom and gloom about these days its a bonus that we dont have to pay in.

Have to agree with you there John that its a great option the Lurcher & Terrier folk have were they can go into the main fair which a lot of

people do,but some just prefer to attend the Lurcher & Terrier events which will be free,i think Derek & the organisers needs applauded for their continued

support to the Lurcher & Terrier folk for this option.

Ian, I was a little disappointed this evening, Bill Beckett was on Radio Ulster this afternoon ,promoting Moira Game Fair. In my estimation, he gave a good pitch for the Game Fair inside the Arena. He mentioned, and including a Russian en route from Kildare, clay Pigeon shootong, Fishing ,Birds of Prey and Scruffs Pet Dog Show, all inside the arena, but he never once mentioned the Good Lurcher, Terrier and Whippets men and women that are also going to have their dog show as part of the Game Fair, albeit outside the perimetre of the show grounds. Whats wrong. Why couldent he include our show in his pitch as part of the game fair. Our Lurcher, Terrier , and Whippet people play a big part in bringing in the crowds and familys to the show as well. Very Disappointed.

as i said in my last post i think its wrong that the terrier|lurcher showing etc is outside the main show i think its all should be inside the main arena and everyone should have to pay in as we are all fieldsports people none any more important than the other but some people cant see the wood for the trees and would rather just stick to the terier lurcher area all because there saving the admission fee and to be honest the fellow on the radio was probly just right not to mention the terrier lurcher people as from the outside looking in they dont seem to want to contribute to the overall sucess of the show like all the other fieldsports people what sort of game fair would it be if everybody took this approach not to mention how would you actually finance a game fair with this attidude its nonsense it takes money to organise the likes of this and its a great oppertunity to promote terrier|lurcher work to the general public but no most would rather hide down out of the way and let them believe the tripe that s spouted on radio tv and newspapers all for the sake of an admission fee and then wonder why our sport is in trouble fcuking brainless imo .........!

If you take dogs to the terrier and lurcher events.......do you spend most of your day 'ringside' because your dogs are competing and that is your interest or do you:

(a)Trail the dogs with you round the stalls, main arena etc, where they get stressed and trampled underfoot?

(B) Leave your dogs locked in your (possibly overheated) car to suffer while you tour the stalls, main arena etc?

© Leave your car open for ventilation - risking getting your car and dogs nicked?

opinions please................

Remember this there was a two for one offer for SACS members all you had to do was phone Elspeth at the office pay by card for one ticket and Elspeth posted out two that gave you your tickets at half price ( the offer is closed now as we can't post out on time). This was a cracking offer and I know that there was a huge uptake of tickets. Bill Becket is an easy guy to deal with he has a good team and they help in any way they can I know we get on well with them my old man is on the SACS stand both days and as a terrier man himself he is looking forward to meeting like minded people. Another thing with the IWTF making great strides integrating terrier work as a legitimate form of pest control, terriermen lurchermen need to move into mainstream fieldsports instead of as already stated being on the outside looking in see you all at the weekend.

Hi Margaret

I obviously cannot speak for Bill Beckett as to why he never mentioned us ( Lurcher,Whippet & Terrier folk ) on the radio show but im sure

if you see Bill at the fair this weekend he would be more than happy to discuss it with you,but what i would like to clarify is that both Derek & Bill

have always give their full support to our club when we have been organising our show at Moira Game Fair. And dee mac i do realise that some Lurcher &

Terrier folk feel like they are being left out of the main fair when our show is based just on the perimeter of where the main events are taking place.

But a lot of the folk attending our events are probably more than happy not to have to pay into the main fair so therefore if we were based inside

the perimeter would we get as big attendance as we do,but in hindsight you are never going to please everyone so i dont think there is a direct answer

to your valuable points regarding the whereabouts of the Lurcher & Terrier events at the game fair as i said a lot of folk are happy enough not to pay the £12

entry fee and just attend our show.

Thanks Ian

Gedro,

Your comparison with Shanes is not quite fair or accurate

The Shanes Castle fair started at 10.00 and showing and racing started at 12.30 - giving you 2.5 hours to walk round the fair. Also we have made substantial concessions to terrier, lurcher & whippet owners including a superb well prepared track, good prize structure which is well spread throughout the classes and equivalent to the top prizes in all of the competitions, the opportunity for top class competition; and good judges. In short we believe that the terriers, lurchers and whippet owners are part of the country sports community and should be part of the main fair. In some ways we actually favour them by giving excellent ringside parking within the fair and as you know there were two day tickets available for the price of one. So if you really wanted two of you could book these tickets and come for a £5 each. Of the £5 - £1 goes to VAT so i think we offer exceptional value to the terrier, whippet & lurcher folk who want to be inside our fair and take advantage of the offer. Now I appreciate that Ian runs good events and I applaud his initiative in running DIFFERENT events such as the simulated coursing, high jump, strong dogs etc and in entrants in the dog show & racing having the choice of going into the fair or not. At Shanes we do things differently but that is not as you suggest a negative - just giving people a different choice. My own recommendation- two good events run differently and if I had terrier, whippets or lurchers I would enjoy going to both! Ian sorry for intruding on your thread - other than posting judges - to get any negatives out of the way early and seeking some obedient lurchers I had held off promoting our event until yours was over. My best wishes for the weekend and although we are busy I hope to get sometime over the weekend.

I really dont think you can please everyone all the time, but I think Ian has got it right with the rings outside the main event, most folk who attend these fairs want to ramble around the stands and take in the fair, which is fine, these people have no problem paying in to the main event, but as Lurcher/terrier folk I think we are getting the best of both worlds from Moira, we get in free to Moira to show the dogs and should we wish to enter the main event then its our choice, so I think all Game Fairs should really head down this road. JMHO...

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
