NEWKID 29,047
We went nowhere without a pen knife and a box of matches, if you couldn't climb it you'd set fire to it... Got to hand it to my younger brother he built some cracking fires, Hedge jumping was the only way to get home, you couldn't walk on the pavement lol

baw 4,360
Bird nesting I always got picked for the small whippy trees because I was small and they were less likely to snap, had some crazy tree swings back in the day with rope no thicker than baler twine. we had a wee guy we used to send up for the chessies/conkers we couldn't get throwing sticks at. Wee c**t could out climb a monkey. Rope swings and catches were the dogs bullocks I wish I was young again I could climb anything aslong as I had a bunk up to the first branch, good memories of some great times growing up. I wasn't too shabby a climber too lol. Here Johnny, did you ever climb a tree, you and your mates, hide and watch c**ts going by not knowing you were there and pretending they were soldiers That brought back memories. Me and my mate used to do that when my Mum and his Mum went for a walk wi the dogs. Had to climb trees so the dogs wouldn't find us. They'd walk passed and we would climb down and run through the wood to get to the next passing point... And playing on the ice...very dangerous. Remember playing "Man Hunt"...(sort of hide and seek kind of game) in the old quarry.......deep pools iced over. Me and a mate smashed a bit of ice and hid and watched as we tried to get a few mates to fall in....WTF.. ....could have killed them if they went under....them were the days though... Lol mate. I can mind watching that film omen when the guy went under the ice and thought, ooooft. Never stopped you though Donr some daft stuff mate. I remember my mates running over really thin ice. You were to run down the steep slopes in the quarry and run across these frozen ponds...the ice was cracking and it was like a f*****g carpet on water just waving up and down. How now one drowned i'll never know. I on the other hand never risked daft stuff like that.......i was...ermmmmm "heavy boned" when i was that age...... we used to break the ice to go fishing, big rock would crack it, then you'd break the rest with your heel. f***ing daft but we survived lol. I think the peat bogs were just as dangerous lol

NEWKID 29,047
What about scrumping... There was a little orchard about a mile from us, we'd sit in the trees and gorge on apples, like meerkats one lad on look out for the farmer.. When the call went up wed run like fck laughing like idiots ( which doesn't help when you run, but you can't help it when your a kid and running away lol).. We were ferreting a hedge once and a bloke shot a shot gun over our heads, that had us ducking.. The kid we were with ( my brothers best mate) is now very high up in the marines, that was the start of his training lol
gnasher16 31,602
Remember climbing up to what I thought was a magpie nest, good way up when a couple of squirrels come running out.. I let go and fell lol We used to climb the tree tops through the woods, from one side to the other.. It's great to think from as far south as we are right up to Scotland and everywhere between, we were all doing much the same things back then.. Must admit it makes me very jealous listening to all these childood stories........dont think i even saw a tree till my mid twenties and certainly didnt have the finesse to climb one

Born Hunter 17,959
We spent a lot of time down 'the woods' by the river fecking about. A lot of other kids would do the same and nothing was safe from rival gangs, lol. Anyway, rope swings over the river/weir pool would be put up only to be cut down and put somewhere else by some other kids. We nicked a ratchet strap from the building site (along with ladders and anything else that wasn't bolted down). Fecking Mowgly here, being the best tree climber in the county , tied the rope swing as high as possible and to this day it still swings, not a single kid since has had the bottle to climb up and cut it down. That right there is local legend.

The bloke who shot at us, used to supply my old man with pigeons, pheasants etc, when he realised it was us he said " I won't say nothing to your dad about this, and neither should you" my Dad would have killed him if he knew he'd shot at us, we said nothing it seemed safer all round..
