Power Cuts

Recommended Posts

I grew up in the 70s - pretty near accepted that power cuts were a way of life and an inherent part of industrial action and I can recall my mum and dad always being prepared for a power cut- just asked the wife if we have candles and she reckons not...

Reminds me of a joke a mate of mine told years ago - in a company that didn't see the funny side - I thought it was quite amusing tho???

"We had a blackout in our street last night - some f***ing carry on until the police came and took him away..."

Gas fire, gas rings on the stove, and gas lights. Battery radio. Sorted. Loads of cuts here, used to it.

Forgot about my Gas Range lol

The oven is out, but the rings work fine when lit from a match. Reading a book by firelight is lovely and relaxing. I think people forget the TV has an "off" button !

How I wish I had a woodburner !! (Bungalow's got no chimney). We have got wind up torches and lanterns, gas canister stoves and hexalite burners (good for a brew - saves gas) and a few military rations stashed away(just realised that it sounds like we're expecting WW3 doesn't it?). I prefer to think of them as "sensible precautions" if you don't mind !

Tried the indoor BBQ - can't recommend it ! :nono:

I remember years ago when I was a lad maybe 13-14 my mate had a pool table in his room so we were always in there. Anyway one night his mum comes into the room, "Louie the electricity is going to go off you'll need to go up the corner shop for a power card" "that's alright mum I'll just watch telly in the dark" was his reply, and I wish I could say that was the thickest thing he came out with but I can't!!
