rob284 1,682
collies gsd labs will all catch game if lamp trained .the pups will be good bushing dogs ok as gun dogs fereting dogs .if a bitch pup is kept and put back to a whippet you will get some excellent rabiting lurchers .they definetly will outstay lurchers and will on average be far more clever.they will have nice thick coats and will not have thin skin thaht spilts like a tomatoe also they will have excellent bone and nice thick strong pads .gsd have a good lenght of stride and are not as slow as some people think .personaly i think that a bitch pup out of this litter put back to a good quality whippet will throw excellent rabitt dogs.the gsd will definetly add strenght brains and stamina and will add to the lurcher much needed stronger blood .many good lurchers have come out of extra strong built dams adding power brains bone coat and above all stamina is a good idea.my late father allways said to me if a bitch lurcher of good breeding lines is throwing to weak a pup. it is time to put her back to a pure collie lab gsd etc to invigorate the bloodline you say it as if they WILL. Might do, but might be shit. Quote Link to post

blackgreyhound 206
bird/ i have had lots of gsdxg over the years and they do have minds of thier own they have the unusaul ability to think for themselves .one day i was up in bluebell woods and a muntjack was running thru very thick bramble i orderd him into the cover he looked at me as if to say get stuffed he then went into the field and run up the side of the wood .after i had climbed up to the top of the hill i was not in the best of moods.i thought little b.but there he was holding the dead muntjack he had thought to himself i will go up the side of the wood and catch him when he breaks cover .in the lamp with other dogs he would allways let the other dog run the rabitts and catch them on the way in.out courseing with gypsies he often let there dog do most of the work then would turn on the power to catch the hare .in the lamp on his own he would catch rabitts on the squat but if they ran most times he would not waste his energy on them .if he coursed a hare in daylight after a couple of turns he would stop if he thought he could not catch it.gsd x g are very annoying at times .but on deer it was a different matter he would never ever give up the chase.my friend has a malumutexgreyhound he was saying he was out in the lamp the other night rabitts well out in the field and he is shouting at the dog for fecks sake go on the dog just looks at him as if to say i am not chaseing that.but big stuff or long ears there is no stopping him .some but not all gsdxg are very willfull and have a mind of thier own if they dont want to do something they wont no matter how much training you give them .sometimes i have been driven to despair but other times i have been amazed at thier abilities Quote Link to post
