yard dogs............when push comes to shove?

plenty you lads got what you call yard dogs to protect your property or even if like me you may have had a dog stolen over the years and decided on a canine deterant for this reason alone, although in my case not quite 100% true but il get to that, so how sure are you it will do what its there for?

just to clarify my "yard dog" which is infact a pet dog for the family, is not what i would deem a suitable dog for the job but none the less he has earnt his grub and place in the family home a couple times over the last few years.

so after having my lurcher bitch stolen few years back which i now realise looking back, although yes i was more than gutted at the time,it was the anger that got to me more than anything knowing some c**t had been no more than a few metres from my back door as im sure more than a few of us have got wife, kids etc to think about.

also as you know in this game your not guaranteed to take your lurcher home after a night out and couple times over the years iv had to tell the wife and kids the dog is no more so to speak, thats probably the main reason iv kennelled all my workers they just dont get that family bond like pet dogs do lolling around the house all day in the family enviroment and i havent got the task of explaining once again the dangers of working lurchers,

so anyway we took this fella on,family love him to death and hes spoilt rotten and he and my 12 year old lad are smitten lol and twice, i have witnessed him seeing off intruders in our garden, last time only a few days ago,i was on nights when someone knocked on the front door early morning when id got to bed, not being bothered to get up i then heard the dog kicking off and as i looked out into the back garden some c**t literrally launched himself over the fence and away unfortunately the dog was a bit to far behind him for my liking but he was in hot pursuit and sure another few metres he would have closed in on him,

so now the question on my mind is what would the dog have done if it had caught up with him?,if the bloke had the bollox to stand and face him would he have backed off?

i know you cant really answer these questions but in essence as far as im concerned hes done his job, food for thought :hmm: ,

cheers

what type or breed is of dog is it , and to be honest mate if you got a dog (loose) on your property that will bite a person, you will get done. The dog is to (under control ) at all times with a handler. Most dogs rotties, gsds, will stop joe public, but a pro would kill your dog either posion it or shoot it. They was a case not far back where they had 2 rotties losse on this big place, the dogs had been shot. and the nicked few top cars . The only time really a dog will stop some one getting in (when you are there) is a vocal breed a jack, gsd, 1 that kick up hell to let you know fact, i was told this by the CID when they done my place 18 years ago. A good gsd will put people off and will make a lot of noise

i know being loose could have implications and i have no doubt a pro would deal with him no matter what if they had a mind to,like i say iv got a few security precautions in place as you do its just the incident got me thinking, hes a family pet first and foremost im not pretending he is anything more but seeing him up and at them was good as for breed.

mongrel,cheers

rays right in what he says, the new dogs law says a dog must have a handler all the time!

they poised a dog round here up on a farm a good few years back, 08 i think, give it a load of blue's to knock it out but it never woke up!

and that was for 300lts of diesel!

i've got cctv that has an alarm PIR so anyone walks in ,it sets it off in my bedroom

Tbh I know of one smackhead beat the gsd guard dog to death in order to steal chihuahuas for his brother to sell

iv heard of similar story concerning a rotty, just goes to show if it isnt a 100% purpose trained guard dog, as in proffesionaly trained for all circumstances like some the lads on here might have been involved with and know their stuff things can easily go wrong
