Whippet/ Bedlington Lutchers

Recommended Posts

When it comes to rabbiting I see a lot of comments saying that whippet Bedlington Lurchers are good etc. why do so many people prefer these to just a normal whippet? Are they just as fast? Why do so many people prefer whippet crosses as opposed to a ped whippet?

I've just picked my first lurcher, beddy x whippet, up. I went for this x as I didn't want something too big, 17-22 ok, quick enough for bolters, wanted the coat to be rough for bushing and a bit more weather resistant. Im not an out and out lamping man so didn't really need the leg a grey. I'm a fan of the terrier, staffords are my game, but admire the beddy, border and wire fox. After all my needs I was advised on the beddy x whippet and are chuffed with my pup!!

good luck with your pup mate, just messured mine and she's now 18 tts perfect size for the work she will have put to her. I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun! The only problem with my pups coat is that it holds water quite bad but she don't suffer from it atall. Atb

Personal choice,

I have one , that is going to be smooth coated and around 23", so a wee bit grey in the mix way back as well, I got him after seeing Kittles pure whippet work, as she is a little cracker, but I wanted something a bit bigger, and a bit hardier.

They only thing i could see a bedlington whippet bien useful for is ratting/rabbiting and catching the odd bit of feather. Not the sort of dog id keep but id have a beddie/greyhound ANY day.

that is all you can work now but i think you have never been around any good beddy whippets for you to come out with that :hmm: atb

a mate of mine had a bedlington x whippet cant remember the exact % MAYBE 3/4 whippet i think and was unbelivabley game, (preban) he would slip it on a feild for of rabbits and it would run though them all to get at a fox, i have seen him shine the lamp on a feild with a fox on and turn the lamp off go to the next feild slip the dog on a squatter and its ran back to were it last seen the fox  and was it more funny is it used to catch a fair few like this  i think if you have a decent beddy x it would give ANY dog a good run for its money
