Nik_B 3,791
I'm in a bit of a quandry My mother in law had my daughter for a day and while she was there her granny dressed three of the birds I'd given her. She then gave my 6 year old daughter some of the feathers to play with. Typical of my daughter she has decided that she wants to take the feathers in to school for show and tell. I don't know the teacher but am a bit worried about the reaction she might get although I doubt the kids will have an issue with it. In my mind I can imagine some left wing freak stopping her half way through as soon as she says the word 'shot'! What do you recon, I've been talked to her about where her meat comes from and why some animals like foxes or rabbits need to be controlled because I don't want her growing up like the rest of the dimwits round here. Would you tell her to not mention they'd been shot for example and just show the feathers or just leave it be and see how it goes? My missus is also a teacher and was going to speak with her teacher about it but that sounds like we're asking permission for her to talk about something perfectly normal. Cheers Nick
lapin2008 1,587
My oldest has asked me to and so I have taken both the ferrets and lurchers (on separate occasions) into my kids school to their monday morning show and tell. My son has also brought stuff like a rabbit skull he found on a walk and other stuff like a clay pigeon. His school is a very rural one though with most of his class mate parents being farmers/landowners and most of them probably hunt in some way (although we are the only ones with lurchers/ferrets lol.) I may not have if i thought it was likely to cause him some aggro at school or if I though the wife may have got some grief

Usually comes home covered in mud but very happy
The Seeker 3,048
Agree nothing wrong with it at all but I wouldn't want my child to be embarrassed by some left wing Citreon driving teacher stopping her half way through her show and tell. I would speak to the teacher prior, NOT to ask permission but to say this is the show and tell subject your daughter is wanting to present and does the teacher have a problem wih the topic. That's only if the show and tell is to include shooting if not surely the feathers etc that's just nature trail stuff? Just my opinion ATB
the_stig 6,614
my mate found a fox skull cleaned it up his grandaughter took it to school in a clean plastic bag they took it off her sent a letter home for one of her parents to collect it ---it was a breach of the schools health and safety policy ... Lab 10,979
I used to take allsorts in...........I'd look at it this way, if your daughter comes home and has been wrongly spoken to by some fanny teacher thats your key to go along to the school and set a few things straight....think of the pleasure of verbally smashing an idiot anti teacher into apologising because of there silly media driven views!!...

She just likes the feathers but I'd be surprised if she doesn't mention that I shot them, she's a very carniverous child and also a very practical one who isn't squeemish. I might make sure she doesn't focus too much on the shooting part and say something like these are the feathers we plucked off our Xmas dinner

I have some interesting memories of finding bulls eyes and rats in the freezer at home while looking for food ;D One of the funniest stories I ever heard was when my mum took some frozen rats down to the home economics room and used the microwave to defrost them because she's forgotten to earlier. When the time came to dissect them there was a foul smell as they discovered mum had cooked them a bit

littlefish 598
Well........to keep it real and balanced...................if the teachers object, you could also offer to provide your daughter with pictures of where most folks clean plastic wrapped supermarket chicken etc comes from.................the birdy equivalent of a concentration camp compared to wild birds foraging through the undergrowth and flying free at their leisure...........................that'll give the PC brigade something to think on!
Nik_B 3,791
Exactly... The problem is I never suggested to her to do it. She came up with the idea herself. I cant really tell her no because that would make me a total hypocrite.

Nik_B 3,791
agree but she's only 6 and parents aren't invited...it's just something they do each Friday. She just wants to show her friends the feathers but I can guarantee the teacher will say "oh where did you get those?" and when she tells them are they going to be normal about it or will they get embarrassed and try and change the subject...
