Just been reading the op post with the video of the severed thumb top and the story by pianoman Hrm, made me think that with some

 

owners I am suprised there arent more incidents. I remember years ago when I used to shoot Bell target at one of the County league

 

pubs, We were the visiting team, Halfway through the match one of the home team was waiting his turn to shoot when he suddenly yelped,

 

then dropped his FWB 300. then hopped across the room holding his foot. before sitting down and took his shoe off then asking one of his

 

team mates if his toe was bleeding?. What he had done was preload his gun then rested his gun on his shoe then while waiting touched off

 

the trigger! needless to say he was hospitalised for removal of what was left of his big toenail and the .177 Wasp which had gone through it.

 

I too carry a .22 pellet in my thigh, a result of a dieseling Airsporter which was being shot at a Cardew ballistic sledge back in the early

 

1980's. in my case the surgeon advised against its removal as to do so would mean cutting through my thigh muscle would leave me

 

with a limp. to top it off a mate who had just got a second hand DGS Ultima 10 came to my house yesterday asking if I could put right

 

the manual indexing magazine that was not aligned correctly before I could stop him he showed how he had to fiddle with the magazine

 

to get the bolt to load a pellet. Dohh, pow! a nice .22 pellet hole in my ceiling, needles to say my wife said it was my bloody fault!

Ron my friend mine goes back more years than i wished, well basically back to when i was a wee laddy (no silly or childish comments you lot either). Well it goes back to when i was a boy, i had a Webly (i think i'm right) Mk11 well it was the model that came with two barrels one .177 and on .22. Well this concept to a young lad was beyond the law, although i knew that air rifles had to be under 12lb/ft but had no idea what that was. But i remember thinking that if the gun had to be no more than this strange and mystical number, then if this was right for the .22 barrel it stood that because the .177 hit more targets then that barrel had to have more power. Not understanding trajectory.

Well on one occasion i know that you all will be shouting "Airgun Safety", but on one particular occasion when reloading the 177 without holding onto the barrel. Can anybody guess what happened next? Yep your right go to top of the class and leave me at the back. Well you all know what happened, i broke the gun to reload still having my right index finger near the trigger then reached for the tin of pellets, then wooosssshhhh the barrel wizzed past my ear that was lucky i thought. Well from that day until i sold it the 177 never shot as good as it had before. It was like swapping the barrels around because i could now shoot/hit more with the 22 than the 177. I know that the chance of me bending the barrel when cold is not possible with the energy the spring could produce but something changed.

Now for the moment that is all i am owning up to Ron, until others have put stories up on here as i don't want to be laughed at and "sent to Coventry" you youngsters that don't understand that phrase ask mum od dad not here as i don't want to feel older than i already do.

There's been loads. My good mate was taking out the anti-bear trap mechanism from his HW77 when it went off at full cock, almost severing his finger. My other mate has a brand new HW90 when they had just come out, his brother decided to pull the trigger with the barrel down at full cock. Result was a barrel like a banana! Another mate has a pellet sunk into his calf where a lad behind him shot him as he played with his trigger whilst walking behind. The list is endless, but at least these accidents happen with air guns and nothing more powerful, thats why air weapons make great starter guns, it teaches the inexperienced about safety without posing the element of risk a bigger calibre would do.

i my self have been lucky ive not had a accident with a air gun my self,but ive heard some bad stories over the years safety first i always say

Had a few myself when i was about 14. Couple of ricochets one cut my forehead and a couple of broken windows, mum was very happy about the windows, and very concerned that i had tripped and cut my head . I shot out our back door by pinning targets on. Just shows why you need a good backstop and safe target to shoot at. I also had a gun go off and the barrel fly up, luckely no injury and gun ok. I am a bit of a safety now.

Also shows why younger shooters need supervision untill they fully undertand the importance of safe shooting

Touch wood, since I was 8 , I can't recall any accidents ,little or small, with any gun. 13years ago. Hopefully I won't have either.

i had a chinese when i was younger 14 i think, tried to see if it was powerfull enough to smash a glass bottle at about 15 yards, my mates webley sport could.. i aimed fired .. ching, bottle falls over then the pellet hit my forehead straight between the eyes.. perfect shot placement like all the snipers in the films :laugh: :laugh: didnt hurt just stung for a bit, gun must have been doing about 5-7 ftlb lol
