beast 1,884
As akycat says it is very hard to give advice without seeing the dog but it sounds as though there is a combination of things happening here. first, the dog is still immature, not all dogs are early starters. second the dog doesnt have confidence in you. third you sound as though you dont really like this particular dog as it is annoying you. i think that you need to "make friends " with this dog, learn to like each other and you will both get confidence from each other. play, feeding, just generally chilling together. its very easy to get frustrated with a dog if it doesnt do what we want and very hard to hide this frustration from the dog. personally i wouldnt even think about working a dog until it was obedient to the things i want from it, so i would be just walking it in all sorts of environments getting used to all different smells asights and sounds until it realises you are not going to put it in danger and it will start to trust you. be patient and kind, and good luck Quote Link to post
johnny 2 367
Well Beast what you say about making friends with a pup is very true.Just starting to with my whippet pup,tbh didn't think I would but things are getting better.Good advice Quote Link to post
beast 1,884
thanks johnny, i think you can force certain dogs to do certain things, but if a dog is really your mate it will face a lion without even being asked Quote Link to post
WILF 49,689
Great advice from all concerned, did you know the parents history?......what are they like? All I will say is, with the best will in the world, sometimes you end up with a crock that will never be right. You get people not right in the nut and I believe it's just the same with dogs 1 Quote Link to post

WILF 49,689
Your a better man than me, the dog would be gone I am afraid if its as bad as you make it sound. I make no apologies for that, life's too short to f**k about with nutcases if you want a useful animal.....they are better left to someone who don't mind all that. Myself, I would also not feel that good about rehoming less some idiot takes a notion to breed and repeat the whole sorry saga. 1 Quote Link to post

reddawn 2,173
iv read this thread a few times noo an pondered wethere or not to answer, i know some wont like what i have to say but here goes anyways.... get the dog pts pal, if you have it from a pup an yet you cannae or ye wife cannae bond with it, its probs for the best, i hate passing dogs on for whatever reason, i still wonder about the couple i have passed on in the past,(not enuff to keep me awake allnite, but worry i dont need), its hard enuff rehomeing a dog with a sound temperment never mind a dog that is driving his owner to despair, a dog that has as many issues as the 1 you describe is never gonna do well if it gets aboard the lurcher merry go round, an finding a home with an owner who can/will accept a dog so needy aint gonna be easy, i know what id do, however its your dog an your choice an i wish you all the best 4 Quote Link to post
