Egg For Ye

I know, obviously. I've noticed the nest being built and have left them to it. Today, through bin's, I saw it was about as complete a nest as I'd ever be able to expect and, being as the birds were no where to be seen, I sneaked over and grabbed this shot.

Birds, I understand, are very likely to desert a nest if disturbed in the early stages? (Bruce Campbell). Well, I've had a minor obsession going on for this species for some years now. I honestly didn't have a clue what their eggs even looked like. Imagine then my delight when I shot and looked at the back of my camera! It's f*cking gorgeous! :D

My only fear now is that, as said, I haven't seen the adults for a day or two. Thus I'm absolutely terrified that my presence around the place and just appearing in a window some ten foot from their nest may have been enough to have spooked them? I so hope not!

Hey and, JD? You're too good, my man! How about keeping it to yeself and giving the less knowledgeable a crack at sorting it? ;)

:hmm: Maybe Lamper showed me those eggs in PM? Only I remember taking a stab at GC Grebe, over Dabchick, somewhere.

But now I've looked with a less busy and distracted eye, that looks more like juncus rush around the nest than, eg. Reed Mace. Could be a more marsh dwelling bird then? Short Eared Owl. But I too thought owls were more typically rounded? F*cked if I'd know then!

Do Hen Harrier lay white eggs? How mundane!

Anyway, Old and, obviously, the rather chillingly well versed Lamper were spot on! As, no doubt was our equelly scary JD. My egg was, of course, a Spotted Flycatcher. And, I'm chuffed to bits to say, there's another one today! Now I'll completely stay away from the nest for a week or two and let them get on. In fact, my next 'project' is a door on the oppossite side of the cow shed :good:

Here's the nest:

Lamper.. give us a pic of the nest with something next to it to give us a better idea of the size.. ;) .. or better still a further away shot..

Millet

DOES THIS HELP????

The nest was amongst a colony of Blackheaded gulls nest. The eggs are just a bit bigger than a chickens, which is susprising when you see how small the bird thatl laid them is.

Lamps
