trigger2 3,406
the 2 weeks in is to prevent the spread of parvo because its a live vacine i dont think it is mate. i dont think they spread parvo when they have had the jab. a lad i know had a litter of pups about 3 years ago and was stuggleing to to sell them, he wanted to keep one but was worried about them getting parvo as they were getting on a bit. i asked my vet if he could just jab the one pup he was keeping and leave the others without it spreading through the rest of the litter. to which my vet replied he could the others would not catch it. the lad jabbed the pup and kept it in with the rest of the litter and they were all fine. lurchergrrl 1,441
Parvo is airborne - a dog can spread it if it's jabbed or not. You can track it into your house on your shoes. A parvo jab (usually) prevents a dog from contracting the virus but not from spreading it if it's been in contact with a dog who has it or in an area where the virus is rife. Quote Link to post
paulus 26
if the pup contracts parvo, jab or no jab its a 99.9% certainty its going to die. Quote Link to post
South hams hunter 8,996
Paulus doesn't it depend on the dog? My bro in law and another mate had litter mates that both got parvo and both survived Quote Link to post
lurchergrrl 1,441
SHH, treatment these days is more advanced and they have a better chance of survival than they would've even 10 years ago but still, more will die of it than not. Bloody awful thing to see a dog struggle with. We tried to save a litter once at the clinic I worked at ... they all died. I will never forget the smell of parvo for as long as I live. Id say its more 50/50 if its vaccinated a week or more and gets proper care Although I have to agree that an unvaccinated young pup even with proper care has a low survival rate Pups over 6mths even unvaccinated ones have a higher chance of making a full recovery.
