RISE to stage RALLY at BIRR GAME FAIR

Recommended Posts

RISE is a campaign made up of various fieldsports organisations in Ireland.

As to their relationship with the IWTF ?

Some of these organisations have spoke to the IWTF and some have given the IWTF advice.

These organisations have been very helpfull to the IWTF and have played a big part in making us what we are today, which is amazing after only a few weeks.

So in my opinion we owe RISE and should be there to support the rally.

After all it is a rally that's supporting ALL fieldsports.

I am sure you will agree that our trips did not come cheep, but did we give a dam NO because we were fighting the fight.

I will be at Birr again to show my support to a worthy cause the RISE rally hope to meet you there.

Don't worry FF you wont be taken for an ol' idiot.

With your way of thinking, we'll leave that up to yourself.

Now now Neil thats no way for a chairman of a country wide organisation to be

talking to people ,Ferret Features could be a member .

The man or woman has a point ,we never had to pay into a RISE rally before

His words, not mine.

I think this and other threads demonstrate that some of the biggest threats to country sports come from within rather than without.

RISE asked us could they hold a rally at the fair in order to demonstrate without a shadow of a doubt the support they have and can mobilise within the rural and country sports community. My colleagues and I were delighted to oblige as we are fully in support of the RISE campaign and we are all committed to the defence and promotion of all legal country sports and felt this would help unify the country sports community. We also felt that we were doing something positive for ALL country sports by giving RISE access to not only our audience of committed country sports people but also to a large and largely sympathetic family audience - in short the sort of people who we will need to sway to our side in the battles to come.

The last thing on our mind was that we would be getting extra receipts at the gate - quite honestly I have been stunned by this accusation and by the mindset of people who would put it forward. I have made SMCC an offer for his bus run of FREE tickets to sell on behalf of the IWTF and FF and JH for FREE admission if they simply want to support RISE and not the fair. I am sure Sam will try his best to take advantage of this - I will report back on FF &JH's uptake. If they do they will find that while I fight my corner in an arguement I don't hold a grudge and I am 100% for country sports unity and not internecine bickering.

Were we not told at the meeting at in the horse n jockey that RISE were not behind us in our campaign to preserve our sport which is using terriers as a form of pest control.I have been in the past to a couple of RISE rallys and also brought lads with me as a show of support.I am also a shooting and fishing man and love every aspect of hunting in any form but imo the IWTF are a minority among other sports which is wrong.

There was a big turnout of Terrier men from around the Country at the RISE rally not so long ago,yet they still dont support us,any one know why?Im sure you have been in contact with RISE,will they be supporting the IWTF in the future. After all Terrier work is a recognised fieldsport?

Having turned down the offer of a FREE ticket to the fair if you simply wished to come and support RISE - it is not terribly clear where you are coming from - are you against the fair or against RISE or both?

Again I can't speak for RISE but I know from discussions with them they have a commitment to defending the status quo when it comes to pest control. I would suspect that RISE will wait and see how the IWTF develops before it throws its weight behind it. I was able to offer some support to the IWTF because I have only to please myself and my colleagues in the fair were happy to go along with me BUT if was a board member of RISE I would be saying wait and see how it develops. What I can say is that I have offered IWTF the support of our fairs and our magazine.

it also put people under an obligation to attend the fair.surely the capatail is the best place for a rally with the antis marching on the same day.heavy security tv coverage assured FREE.

The antis only organised their so called protest after RISE and The Great GameFairs of Ireland got together.

Surely a few euro is worthy of supporting your sport and a day out.

But that's your own buisness.

giving a few euros isnt the issue.i dont like being taken for an oul idiot this being sugested is to boost gate takings these people couldnt care less about lurcher n terrier men ever hear the oul saying.ruling by fooling.

I am afraid to say that I consider the mentality of your statement provides its own condemnation!

As I said it is not at all about boosting gate receipts - RISE approached us and we were happy to facilitate them in providing a venue where the rally will take place amongst a guaranteed crowd of supporters. In terms of your allegation 'that these people' by which I would assume you mean me couldn't care less about terrier & lurcher men - I would suggest you look at the prize list for Birr and answer me this - where else would you see such an investment in terrier & lurcher events - except at our other fair at Shanes Castle.

What you need is public to understand what you do in hunting,Instead you will rally amongst people who support you,While the antis are out there with photos telling lads that have never even seen a fox,How there RIPPED TO PIECES,EATEN ALIVE.How many lads have been to these meetings have heard phrases like We dont want to draw attion to our selves, ect.

What is very important to demonstrate at BIrr is the number of people mobilised for the Birr rally hopefully outnumbering the Anti rally by several thousand to demonstrate the relative support for the positions of the two groups. This can be one of the best PR coups ever but it is not helped by people who are anti Rise, anti establishment, anti me or anti RISE being negative can we not agree that we are all PRO Countrysports and we have an unrivalled opportunity to demonstrate that to politicians and media at Birr.

I tell you something Albert ,those that know me know the work that I and others

done for RISE ,the hard work the unseen work

You know fxxk all about me

If that is the case I cannot understand why you could not come to Birr to support THEM once I removed your objection of 'paying to attend a rally' by offering you a free ticket to the fair if you wished to support RISE and not the fair.

The Tally Ho Dog Show and Raceday Saturday 3rd May 2025
As 7am on Saturday morning 3rd May 2025 rang out loud and clear in our house, I crawled out of bed and thanked god for allowing me another day on this beautiful landscape of ours called the Emerald Isle. With the joys of spring in my heart, Mr Fox away on his summer holidays, the work in the field completed for another season, it was show time again on this side of our Island.
Suddenly the seasons were telling me it was Tally Ho show time of the year again and time to get our Canine friends in the show ring and on the race course, for the start of the summer Dog show and Race Days schedule.
Some of us have had joyous occasions in our families since the last showing season, and some of us may have had great sadness, as fate can throw all sorts of problems in the pathway of life. As we dusted ourselves down after our winter woes, Saturday was a day to leave all our cares of yesterday behind and head to Crumlin for  the Tally Ho  annual dog show and race day.  And what a days enjoyment with our loyal Canine friends that was.
The weather was beautiful, but tinged with an east wind that would cut you in two. As we approached the field, we could see very clearly there was very little parking space left. Each year this show grows bigger and better. Peter Morgan being the caring gentleman he is made sure he kept a parking space for the now 2 senior citizens and of which we were very grateful.
By midday the field was full to capacity.  In the show rings there was a big turnout and a great mix of top quality dogs in all categories. 22 races and 28 children in child handling class.
As I moved around the rings, I met up with some old friends and some new ones too. Michael Reilly travelled up all the way from Tipperary. Yapper Hayes came up from Kilkenny and Stephanie O Connor and family and Mc Grath Family travelled up from Carlow.  All great doggie people and support every show and race day North and South of the border.
Stands were situated around the show ground. Paul Boyd with loads of canine supplies/ Alannah Harpur and her sister with some beautiful Tea Shirts and Mugs and Mary Kate Quinn was there with her amazing art work . What an interesting and talented lady to speak to. There was a burger stand on site and 4 toilets dotted all around the field.
Our children as usual were well cared for by the Tally Ho show organiser Peter Morgan, both in the ring and outside it. Two bouncy castles were on site and inside the ring were trophys, medals and big bags of sweets for every child. A real childrens paradise. Some sleepy we people on Saturday night.
Time waits for nobody. The moment had arrived after the long cold winter to get our Canine friends out of the field and into the show ring and on the Race course.

And finally to the helpers on the day, Conor Creagh, Ash Coyle, Kodi Coyle and Anthony Mc Dowell your contribution to the success of the show was invaluable and many thanks.
And Finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. I must not forget the man at the helm of this top show day. Peter Morgan your hospitality, excellent show and race day, magnificent trophies and prizes, your generosity  knows no bounds. I can honestly say our lives have been enriched with the excellent work and enjoyment you give to many families North and South of the border through your dog show on the day.
Peter we all look forward to your shows as they brighten up our darkest days and brings us away from the trials and tribulations of life, if only for a day. Your show is a credit to you for a one man band, along with all the time and energy you put into them to give us all a great days enjoyment.
Thank you for your friendship over the years and please do not stop running your shows. Yours in Country Sports to we meet again, God Bless.
