andyfr1968 772
Hi, lads. I'm looking at replacing my good old Leapers 2-7x32 with something a little better suited to the low light shooting that I'm finding myself doing a lot more of these days. Below are the two scopes that I think will suite me well for the money. Has any of you used either of these or could maybe suggest something else? Is the Mamba worth nearly twice the money of the Airmax? I'm not fussed about IR or complicated rets, I just want something fairly basic and robust. Cheers, folks http://www.uttings.c...44-rifle-scope/ http://www.uttings.c...ao-rifle-scope/ Just to add.... I also like the look of this but I'm not sure that 10x and a 44mm objective will be much use when the light's poor....? http://www.uttings.co.uk/Product/543/102904/mtc-optics-viper-10x44-ir-rifle-scope/ Edited July 1, 2012 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
Sjt657 191
Couldn't tell you if it's worth twice as much but I have the mamba on my hw100 and it's brilliant ... I do like it but that's not to say the other two are no good .. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Airmax, without a doubt, spend the difference on beer or ammunition! Mary had an MTC scope, whited out when shooting towards the setting sun at all magnifications, my Hawke did not, she bought a Nite Eye instead! Quote Link to post

I've heard very good reports about the Mamba and I think it's probably got the nod so far but that said if the Airmax is comparable then I can maybe save a few quid 'cos I'm a bit light on spare cash just now!! I was looking at the MTCs at Redbeck the other day and I was impressed by the quality feel of the things. I'd like to see an Airmax properly before shelling out on either but I can't find anywhere locally that stocks them, I don't like buying blind if I can avoid it. Edit to add... Swillington are listing the 3-9x50 Airmax. I'll give them a ring tomorrow. Edited July 1, 2012 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
Andy I have TWO brand spanking, still-in-the-box, never-been-shot-with new Hawke Airmax 4-16x50 scopes with SR6 reticles and spare mounts. Why not try one of these on a shoot together and see if you like it mate? Simon Quote Link to post
villaman 9,982
Airmax, like mole said the MTC whited out not good Quote Link to post
Flow 18
Do you fancy selling one Pianoman? Quote Link to post
woodcote1 88
What rifle is it for mate? Quote Link to post
19powell90 89
ive only had hawke & mtc scopes. i prefer the mtc scopes personally. but the sidewinder is one that i would look at getting maybe at some point mtc reticle is the best thing on the market imo Quote Link to post
davyt63 1,845
hi Andy I think you answered your own question there buddy Airmax it is? but will tell you this I have three Mambas and all work very well, and in low light too,but they are 30mm tube.the mamba light is a 25mm tube so in my opinion not good for low light shooting ( hence the 25mm oppose to the 30mm tube) more light through a 30mm tube if people have problems with them whiting out? then send them back to MTC and they will replace them! customer service is second to none! I know Gary & Sammie Personally and they are really nice people to deal with Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Thanks for the replies, lads. Woodcote, it'll be mostly used on a HW90 but also occasionally on a Diana 52 (FAC, belongs to a mate )so I need something robust. Thanks, Davy. I think the Airmax is getting my vote now and I can't see the extra price of the Mamba being justified for what I need but I'll wait until I've seen Simon's scopes. I was very impressed with the ones I saw, properly good quality kit for the money. Simon.....!!!??? What a handy coincidence That sounds like a plan, give me a call at Debbie's when you get back up, that could well be a result Thanks again for the replies, folks Quote Link to post
woodcote1 88
Have a look at the range of Tasco scopes, they are fairly well priced. Quote Link to post
BenjaminCadd 109
I decided to buy the Airmax on saturday, the 4-12 x 50 AO and its a great scope the build quality is great and the optics are well worth the money. In all i dont regret buying mine! Quote Link to post
woodcote1 88
Had a look at the Nikon Pro Staff EFR today and if it wasn't for the incredibly fine reticle i might have been tempted. Quote Link to post
