55,000 young men died over 70 years ago today they were given the respect they were overdue LEST WE FORGET

" going to war without the French is like going duck shooting without an accordion " ......." Storming" Norman Swharztkoff   How true.....

spinless feckers had no problems with sending them over to drop the bombs, only got a conscience after the war was over

a staggering 59% of all bomber crews were either killed, injured or taken prisoner  the bbc had a change of heart about the coverage but only after a big outcry from the ex forces comunity.

Far too long overdue but at least this govt had the balls to do it not like all the govts before

It's a very well deserved tribute to these young brave men some of whom were only 18 years old.

Bomber Harris was treat like a social leper After the war not even a campaign medal was issued, as you say when this country was on its knees we needed them then.. Short memories eh? Even Churchill distanced himself which in my opinion is one of his few mistakes.

The fighter pilots got the glory for our air campaigns and the bombers got nothing. Everybody and his dog has heard of the spitfire but for me it wasn't our best WW2 era plane. The mosquito bomber was looked on with fear and envy by the Germans because they had very little to counter the threat of it until they brought out the jet powered ME 262, but by then it was too late in the day.

"In 1940 I could at least fly as far as Glasgow in most of my aircraft, but not now! It makes me furious when I see the Mosquito. I turn green and yellow with envy. The British, who can afford aluminium better than we can, knock together a beautiful wooden aircraft that every piano factory over there is building, and they give it a speed which they have now increased yet again. What do you make of that? There is nothing the British do not have. They have the geniuses and we have the nincompoops. After the war is over I'm going to buy a British radio set - then at least I'll own something that has always worked."

— Hermann Göring, 1943.

Like adolf galland , a Luftwaffe officer, who asked goering for a squadron of spitfires lol he was replaced soon after.

Was very highly decorated , and became very good friends with Douglas bader despite notching up a shitload of ally kills. In fact most of Them had enormous respect for each other, during and after the war. Read a few stories of them aknowledging each other in battle. Only when they had ran out of ammo l might add lol
