buster gonads 862
After walking the dog up the river Don [doncaster] on sunday hopeing to drop him on a Mink, it looked that good i decieded to try a bit of stick float fishing for Roach, off i went after work yesterday, set myself up and had a couple of roach and a Chub before i decieded my eyes are no longer upto it should have gone to speck savers, end'd up useing a light feeder rod i had with me, end'd up with 6 Chub and 3 Roach for about 10 pound but got done twice by Barbel, next time i,ll be going for them Barbel and i,ll be better equiped, well worth a visit if you like river fishing, i hate with a passion them Carp puddles, another bonus was that the dog caught a Rabbit while i was fishing . 1 Quote Link to post

NEWKID 28,581
Love fishing the stick mate... My fav fresh water method....... Sounds like you had a good session , nice one... Quote Link to post
mattyg 1,862
fishing the stick is the best method bar none. that was the only way i knew how to fish when i was a kid as thats what i was taught on the river blythe, dont get enough time to don me waders and get out in the middle of the river nowadays. for me, theres alot more skill and involvment in fishing the stick than just launching a massive feeder/bomb out and waiting for the same muddy carp to pick up your bait on one of those bloody carp puddles. long live proper fishing! lol matt 2 Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
Its an Art i never masted, waggler was always easyier Quote Link to post
mattyg 1,862
BBB, cant beat the sight of a dotted down float tip sinking below the water, although each to their own and the waggler has its place, im just getting all "strawberry tinted glasses" over the whole "stick float thing", if i aint chucking fluff (very badly) im usually trotting a stick down a tiny river in warwickshire or just watching watching my dogs slightly bother the local rabbit population. the rabbits seem to like being chased from what i can see as they never get caught....lol matt Quote Link to post
buster gonads 862
Down from the prison was it? Upstream of the prison BBB, just above the Salmon ladder, i,ve been back to have a go at the Barbel but only took Halibut pellets and the f*****g dog ate them while i was setting up, thieving buggers them Plummers . I,ve seen Mink on that section before but only when iam fishing, never see them when i,ve got the dog with me though, if i can get some casters today iam going to have a couple of hours tomorrow, hopfully the dog wont eat casters . i sat watching a fella on weds afternoon catching Roach and skimmers on Hemp and Tares on the stick, just below were the river runs under the canal side bridge, i,ll decied on either stick or light feeder when i see if its a downstream wind or not, atb, buster.
