Commercial Vehicle Road tax?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone explain to me why the road tax for a fiesta van is a shite load more than it is for the same fiesta car? Same engine, same year etc etc.

I've searched the net but can't find an answer.....

(Thumbs up smiley not working!)

It's a f*****g joke! 1.6 TDCI fiesta car £30 a year, 1.6 TDCI fiesta car derived van £210 a year! I know it's only £180 but it pisses me off, just another law that makes f**k all sense. I use the vehicle as I would a normal car, it's just much more convienient having a van for dogs/game etc.

I just imagine it is because they presume a commercial vehicle will be used for a business, therefore will use the roads more and carry more weight???

If thats true then you'd pay more in tax as you use more fuel, i have a Berlingo and do around 6.000 a year, pisses me off  .

I just imagine it is because they presume a commercial vehicle will be used for a business, therefore it will present the state with another opportunity to put its mitts in the pockets of hard working folk. It's not like the commercial vehicle owner doesn't cough up a substantial amount in fuel duty, VAT, insurance, tax & NI to begin with???

Can't take any extra money from those at the top of the pile, politicians either are or aspire to be those at the top of the pile. Plus those at the top of the pile give out the lucrative 'jobs' once the political career is over. Can't take any extra money off those right at the bottom of the pile as they have fook all to take off em apart from their token cig and alcohol duty. Better to take it from the compliant middle of the pile who might grumble a bit, but will still take a shafting without kicking off like the top and bottom can do.

In hindsight I should have bought the 3dr fiesta car and converted it to a van (soild side window, bulkhead and ply floor... job done?). Bet the raping tax bandits would then want to re-classify it as a commercial vehicle!
