its a great idea but cant see me making a return so on that note "i'm out".

If you have'nt already, take out a patent or they will have it off you in no time. Beliieve me i know.

I hope it takes off for you and your mate, you could make a hell of a lot of money. But if you could ask him if it can work on a wet car I would be interested. I know it is indoors, but if there is a

It scans for any scratches, bumps etc in the hire car. When you take the car out it gives you a print out and when you return you get a print out. It uses 9 high tech cameras ( not my part I'm not a techy) which view the car from every angle. There is no margin for argument, unlike the bloke with a clip board which always results in arguments. At the moment it costs avis alone 60k a month in insurance disputes this will eradicate that. It only takes 4 seconds to scan and your on your way. I think in heathrow alone there are 400 hire cars rented from avis a day so that's a lot of wasted time for someone withs clip board. I'll get some photos up later when I'm on a pc.

i used to be a plater and we used to pick mostly merc s up from avis at heatrow and it used to take a while with the man with the clip board , but it was worth the wait as we had a nice e class merc full o juice all weekend , dropped em off on monday 8)

I hear a lot about this kind of technology at work, so I am very surprised that this works. Everything I hear about things like this being used in factories shows that it is very difficult for cameras to 'see' small scratches. Also, does it work in the rain? I can't see how it could distinguish between dirt/rain and damage, so wouldn't you need a human team as back up anyway?

Sorry, not putting a downer on it I am just interested how it works

A few pics of the Unit that got moved today, this one is going into Heathrow tonight, Avis have there 2 for testing now.

Ratreeper:

I'm not clued up on the technology, cameras etc mate, we have designed and built the unit to house it all..... I think the car has to be relatively clean mate, there is no worries with rain as it is all inside. It has been tested for a few months now and it all seems to work fine

Cheers

Interesting you mention that ratreeper, I bought a car 3 months ago, 1 yrs warrenty breakdown cover 3 yrs free servicing etc. thrust release bearing went in the clutch on the missus so she rang me at work saying about this loud noise everytime she changed gear. She drove it over to the dealer we bought it off. No courtesy cars available at that time !!! Though under warrenty she couldn't drive our car home seeing if anymore damage would be done to the clutch on would invalid the warrenty !! I got a call at work the next morning from a guy in the service garage saying they were waiting on the new clutch kit and that there was a courtesy car available that morning, so I rang the missus she lifted it. I came home from work and a lovely black insignia sitting in the driveway, though it was well due a wash. I made a point off going to the shop lol for a spin in it, petrol drinking fker it was. Drove home and reversed into the drive as I do and walked round to the passenger side and there was 3 deep scrapes from the front wing right to the back quarter panel !!! I got her out of the house and asked her had she noticed them when she went to lift the car?? Typical woman, nooo, puzzled look on her face !!! I took the next day off work and made it a point to drive the insignia back to the garage when my car was ready to be lifed. They're wasn't a word spoken but if she would have drove it over and they tried to pull a fly one, it could have been a different story.

Whilst they were fitting the new one last night there were 4 arguments/disputes about damage to vehicles..... 1 bloke was charged £480.00 for damage....

The concept of this unit is to help with these disputes + saving a load of wasted time as well, it should make it fair to both parties, the customer and the hire centre, I've seen the software working and it is really clever, after talking to my mate this morning there's a lot of buzz about it, they had it running last night and it performed. The main man (chief exec) is meeting today and every manager etc is running around up there, my mates got to do the presentation at 10am and he hasn't slept yet, both him my brother and one of our fabricators have worked all night to get it right, it was a 22hr day for them yesterday............

Cheers

I hope it takes off for you and your mate, you could make a hell of a lot of money. But if you could ask him if it can work on a wet car I would be interested. I know it is indoors, but if there is a water droplet or dirt I think it would interfere with the lasers that let the camera 'see'. So if he has a way around this, which is possibly what he has patented then that would be remarkable.

It was tested up there last night in awful conditions (torrential rain) and the news this morning was it worked fine, as I said mate the technology side of things is not my thing but to get 2 into Heathrow and operational would suggest they are of use ......... He's a clever lad mate and has made a few quid with other things that others either haven't thought of or haven't the bottle to pursue...... It could be a very big thing for us as we have spent a lot of time and a fair bit of our money on our part of the design and finishing of the product........ as Del Boy would say " He Who Dares, Rodders":thumbs:
