PeakOil 352
Just had some tenders back in at work, fook me folk are buying work. We never really went out of recession. There was just a temporary illusion of 'recovery' created by someone in the Bank of England pressing a few buttons on a computer every month to create new money to buy government debt off bankers. Tea breaks over, back on your heads!

MAIN MAN 277
Im a free lance bricklayer and have been for 20 years + our day rate has had to be cut buy a load just to get the work, At this moment in time we have got no work at all! we have priced jobs at a pitifull day rate and still got fxk all. Anyone who is in the buiding trade will tell you this country is on its knees, Its grab what you can when you can and scrape up every penny from any place. I thought i had seen the last of hardship when i was a kid but these times are very hard for us. Also it makes me sik to here the farmers moaning about there costs and acting like there being hard done buy when they get subsidised for just about every thing posible (why are builders not being helped)?? Ossie n Arch 1,682
I'm almost ashamed to post this, but we've just agreed on a 2 year pay deal. 4.45% this year and inflation + 0.75% next. At the moment I could work as much as I want. I work in the Electricity distribution industry (Was a Sparks before) and we are always Recession proof, always been the same. Most of my mates are struggling though, my hunting partner is out of business in 2 months (Steel erecting) unless some work comes his way. As regards Wilf's post about the lights not going out. I own a generator just in case. The level of investment in the Electricity network has been cut year after year after year. I was at a job on Monday and the date on the pole was 1953. Nearly sixty years it's been in the ground. We are just not spending enough on the system or the power plants, whether Nuclear or Coal to keep up with demand for electricity or system reliability . Got to keep the shareholders happy with their dividends instead. Madness. If these get sold (Maybe they have) http://www.iprplc-gdfsuez.com/ then nearly all our own generating plants will be foreign owned, and when power becomes in short supply, it wont be us getting it first....... Lab 10,979
Well we've had to bite the bullet and go back into fencing just cause theres not the money in Game farming nowadays. The big Game farms are pumping out hundreds of thousands of birds so they can bring the costs down and its a struggle to compete... On the upside the meterage for fencing has risen since 10-15 year ago quite dramaticly. Because its not classed as a skilled trade it used to peanuts but now the introduction of more security fencing types the ppm has had to rise. Hope the company we are getting work from keep using us at the rates we charge............
PlasticJock 539
@Malt - couldn't agree with you more. It's just about to go tits up in a big way and people are still crying about 'weekly wages', IMO it's only a matter or time before we all understand how worthless it all is and how we've been played like fools. Butchery isn't something I've always wanted to do, but I'm doing it as its a 'survival' trade that could always be of use to you. Imagine that this really is coming down around our ears, are you ready for it???

People need telling what to do instead of taking the initiative.
