hedz31 1,308
I would choose a saluki based dog if i wanted to run hare regular, i would choose a bull or wheaten based dog if i wanted a vermin and terrierman's lurcher, i would choose a collie based lurcher if i wanted a wanker that jipped on teeth and picked and chose run's after a few season's on bunny's 1 Quote Link to post
chartpolski 28,217
KR, I get the impression you being the "Devils Advocate" with this thread !! LOL !! There's a place for both types; the Saluki X for the out and out hare dogs, and the Collie X as more of an allrounder, but thats not to say either couldn't do the others job in some circumstances ! So; I suppose it comes down to quarry, land, and, probably, most importantly, personal choice ! I've owned both types..... but now I run Deer X and Beddy X, and there is DEFINATELY good and bad in ALL crosses !! Cheers. Quote Link to post
KittleRox 2,147
they get on my nerves to be honest, I have seen saluki types doing well but to be honest no great shakes that other blood couldn,t give Quote Link to post

I thought that's what you were after though ! LOL ! Some interesting observations. I'm old enough to remember when Collie X's, (and Deer X's), were the norm; before the Salukis hit these shores ! But one thing is certain now.... if you want to compete on hares; you better have Saluki blooded dogs ! Cheers. 1 Quote Link to post
inan 841
You obviously know nothing about coursing if you asking, what does a saluki add that collie dosnt. There is no comparison when it comes to hare killing. I don,t agree, adecent collie type will run clever just as well as any saluki type, whether up and at them or other wise . No collie cross can live with a saluki cross on big land , they cannot compete for stamina. Small fields /hedgey land , yes , big fens, no. Moonlighter is spot on. Horses for courses. foxfan 479
never had any trouble with the saluki/collie /lurchers feet. saw and owned 3/4 grey/collie which knocked up toes etc on the same land on occassion. so you had more bother with collie base feet as apposed to saluki ? A collie doesnt run at 35mph, how can you talk about their feet ? Collie crosses will do most jobs but not knock over hares regular. They will piss all over a bull cross however 1 Quote Link to post
