PoshPikey 560
Ignore Dachshund - google Teckel. They have the highest prey drive of any KC animal i have come across.

Carraghs Gem 1,699
teckel is just an old name for dachshund, i expect they used the name to differentiate between work and show stock. dachshunds come in 3 coat types smooth/wirehaired/longhaired the instinct is still there in some strains of showstock but i doubt most have too many health and conformation problems to make decent workers. Wullz 408
I worked on a farm in Germany when I was a teenager and the farmer had the standard size longhairs....working stock through and through. The farmer used them for tracking deer and wild boar.....hardy dogs. Lost one big dog to a boar badger, went down the sett and we couldnt get to him, very hard animals.... The ones on the farm slept in beside the pigs!! Used to fight with them to get in at the scoff.....I have never seen one that looked like the farm dogs here tho.... PoshPikey 560
Dachsunds are a waste of time they have been too inbred and show bred - imported teckel blood from czechoslavakia/ germany etc is the way forward
