i have said i dont blame you even though i feel its wrong  the new idea of giving a 50% discount is suppose to be so they re invest in new stock to be built in an attempt to stimulate the economy. however i dont believe any will ever get built  i have an idea that should leave both my lads a property each when im gone and to me thats what its all about for me know.

I don't hold anything against those who bought their council houses, but the system is massively flawed. The money raised from house sales was originally meant to be used to build replacements and low cost housing. I don't know about other areas, but that never happened at all in my area, and now there is a chronic shortage of social/low cost housing. During the last 20 years, huge swathes of local properties were sold off for a fraction of their market value and then promptly sold straight on for their full value. There should have been a provision in place that any property bought off the council had to be sold back to them. The original intention of the right to buy was to give everybody the chance to own their own home but it's gone tits up now.

i`m 100% with you ... most new housing in our area has to have a precentage of social housing included ...

most housing developments wont get a look in unless they include some form of social housing i believe the goverment wants all social housing in the private sector

malt -- when i bought mine you could`nt sell on -- within 3 year or you lost your discount i had my mortage with the council and you could go in a pay lumps off if you wanted

That's better than the system round here then pal. Folk were buying their houses for under £50k then because of the location (seaside holiday town in a national park with sky high prices) they were going straight on the market for £150k+..

Like I said, I hold nothing against those who chose to do it, I probably would have given the choice but it's got that bad they've all but suspended the right to buy round here completely. Now nobody of a lower income gets a chance at owning their own homes and private rents have gone though the roof.
