Jobs when your older

Recommended Posts

Every other boring fecker, who tells you you should know what you want to do by now do my head in, but im just wondering what people do off here and if there happy with there job!

I honestly have no clue what i want to be at all.

Obviously people ask out of curiosity and thats fine but i mean people who nag and seem to look down because you dont know, i just know i dont want a desk job, but if it paid the bills id have to do it.

If you got kids or a family to support then you just gotta crack on and do whatever....................but if its just you then bollocks to all the serious stuff live your life, try things out and see what fits................worse thing i can possibly imagine is being tied down to some 9 to 5 shit from 16 - 60 !.....maybe focus on what you dont want to do rather than what you do want to do,avoid the shit things and you,ll fall into something you like eventually......at least its not doom and gloom while your finding out though.

just me and my dog atm, but i want a part time job atm just for being able to do things on weekends etc

done a few jobs from a killer in an abboitor to groundworker, brickies labourer, bouncer for ten years or so. then i got a job in the insulation game.worked on the tools until i broke my knee cap. now i just book in the jobs and sort out the teams. great position can do it from the house so very rarely need to go the office.dont work full time anymore fortunaetly im in the position i can do that. lot to do with the fact i have no commitments ie wife and kids. you will prob have a few shit jobs patrick, until you find yourself in one your happy with. my only advice would be dont stay in a job you hate,it will only make you an unhappy person,i know thats not easy in the current climate, but that should change. i wish you all the very best in whatever carrer you choose best of luck.

Some sound advice from the guys off here Patrick, the only thing too would like to add is don't be tied to the pound notes, if your not happy in a certain job move on even if its for less money you never know what opportunities can arise from that type of situation. Also have a look into your local volunteer centre they could have something there that might be able to give you experience in different things, and some times the best way to get the experience and a foot in the door thats needed with some jobs. Good luck dude

Do a search on here pal there was a thread maybe a year or so back where alot of member listed their jobs and what they loved and hated about them.

Should give you some 'inspiration' :victory:

Alot of them were outdoor jobs.

All I will say is try and get your head around it and get into something you will enjoy long term, as Scothunter said working in a job you dont enjoy will only make you depressed, and as a young lad with no ties you shouldn't need to.

Try the local Leccy/Gas board. Depending on what Qualifications you have they might have something. Most of them have only just started taking on after years of not doing, so, so there will be a massive skills gap soon. Lots of lads at our place started on the digging gang and have worked there way up. Some of them earn more than the Manager. It's a decent job, outside all the time and if you got on the overhead, you get to ask every farmer whos land you go on if you can have permission.............Most say no.

How old are you Patrick? Don't rush and make the mistake of getting tied down with women and kids too young......listen to Jeremy Kyle...he doe talk sense! Get out, have fun, enjoy your freedom, get educated and explore your options in life without having to worry about providing for kids at a young age.

oh dont get me wrong there times more so now im a bit older, sometimes i dwell on the fact i wish i had kids, but i was kinda selfish and self absorbed. and also thats a major thing in folks lifes having kids,i could go without but you cant have do that with children, they have to come first above anything else, and if im frank that filled me with dread. im happy enough though and i do spoil my mates kids when i see them.maybe for the best i didnt have any kids, they could have probally scared the shit out of adolf hitler lol

My advice would be to stop worrying about what you want to be. If you get a job you don't like, you can always get another but the experience you earn will mean you will get a better chance of being hired.

Just don’t be one of those people who whinge they can’t get a job, when what they really mean is they haven’t been accepted for their ideal job without earning the experience. I worked lots of shit jobs, but I still don’t have my dream job of running my own dog training/rehabilitation centre because I need a lot of experience and cash to get it going. I have chosen to try and make money first, working in lots of different jobs so I learn how to run a business and common mistakes etc. I just turned 24, I hope by the time I am 30 I will have my own house I can start converting…
