Ideation 8,217
As I was in Germany on Sunday, Johnnyboy68 and I didn't get a day out with the ferrets and dogs, so with me getting back yesterday, we decided to have a bit of a mooch today. Got up early, but took a good 15 mins to actually get out of bed, and eventually got underway to johnnyboys, with Finn, and two Jills, a young one bred by johnny and my wee silver faithful. Picked up johnny, one of his jills and Luna, the young bitch, leaving the old girl at home, as she was under the weather. Our first stop was a farm where we usually get a bit of sport for the dogs, a few runs out of cover and often a few bolts out of hedge sets. However this time it was not to be, as the farm had been flooded We had a good walk around for a couple of hours but only saw one rabbit that dissapeared into thin air Anyway, we headed to another spot, which we have pulled a good few rabbits off this season, and after walking up the hill, quickly got a mark on a nice hedge set from Finn. Netted up and entered my silver jill, and after quite a while, out bolted bunny into a net, to be pinned by the dogs. Closer inspection showed signs on the dreaded mixi quite bad. We carried on for a bit but it was very quiet. Eventually the dogs put up a pair of rabbits from cover, one dissapearing over the hill (obviously very healthy ) and one dropping to ground. We netted up and down went the ferret. After a while the rabbit bolted, slipped the net but was snapped up by finn, who was promptly robbed of his rabbit by Luna. Once again, bloody mixi. We followed the line of the healthy bunny, but to know avail, losing it in some woodland. On the way however, the dogs pretty much walked over another still alive mixi causulty, before snapping it up, Luna beating finn by a whisker. They must smell different as they pretty much tripped over it. We moved on to a different spot, dropping into a gully. On route the dogs ran one in, and soon after getting inside and down the banks, we had a nice mark on a set. Nets on and jill in, and soon she returned with blood on her face and soaking wet. Down went the S&R ferret, instead of the steady mark we were expecting, she was travelling a fair bit, and soon a little brown head poked out of a hole before descending again. After a bit of run around she evicted him. Back down she went in S&R mode once again, and we got what we thought was a decent mark, but after dropping a few feet we found a chamber with a half dozen tunnels descending into the depths. We couldnt dig much further due to the spot and unfortunatly had to abandon this rabbit to the worms. A little further on, Finn once again started marking a deep set in the gully bank around a dead tree, Luna also started marking which is a pretty good sign there is more than one rabbit at home. Down went my young jill and after a bit of bumping, the rabbit stopped moving about, but could be heard just below. A bit of a dig and it was pulled out of the stop end. The jill disappeared back down and after a bit a second rabbit could be heard moving. This rabbit also decided to duke it out and as it was getting dark, we decided to dig to it, just as johhny broke through however, it bolted, into two nets and lunas mouth. Not going anywhere! So a bit of a mixed day in some respects, it's never nice to see mixi, what a horrible disease it is, but its this bloody weather! But all in all, a nice mooch in good company as always, and a decent enough bag of rabbits. Oh yes and Finn was a little c*nt at times, cos i had been on holiday and he'd been left at home, we b*****d that he is Atb 1 Quote Link to post
