johnny boy68 11,726
Well last night I couldn't sleep so around 1am I decided to grab the young dog(Luna) and the lamp and have a wander, I decided to try a spot that I've not been to on the lamp for a while, the place used to be a good spot though is a little awkward to get to being surrounded by foresty. When I set out there was hardly any cloud and the moon was like a light bulb in the sky the wind wasn't really blowing hard though some of the gusts were strong. Well after almost an hour on "shanks's pony" I got to my destination and there was the odd bit of cloud cover but still very bright, first field I get into and against the skyline I can see the tell tale silhouette of a bristly everton mint, he goes one way I go the other way to another little paddock which is very wet.I flick the light on and theres a few bunnies out close to the fence line not ideal but if you wait for the perfect runs they never come so I slip the bitch and she picks the one closest to the fence bordering the forestry, with the fields being wet the rabbits hear the dog splashing almost immediatley but the rabbit to his downfall decided to run along the fence line than go straight in the little bitch didn't need another invite and picked him up without really breaking stride. After her trademark first rabbit lap of honour retrieve we head off to the next spot. This field is a little bigger and walled on two sides though never usually as anything in but surprisingly as a few dotted around so I drop in below them, flick the light 2/3 beat a hasty retreat through the top fence line but one decides to squatt so I walk the dog up to within 10 yards or so and hiss dog on and she picks him sweet as, text book retrieve this time. Quick flick around again and spot another clamping tight to the wall, decide to give the bitch a stretch on this one and give the floor a quick stamp and the rabbits away but the dog is all over it like a rash and after a few jinks she picks him up, 3 runs 3 rabbits......nice. I head to my next spot over a bit of marshy moorland lamping as I'm going theres a few around but are tight to the forestry, I give her 2 runs but she misses both but tries hard so no real dissapointment.Get to my final destination which is made up of uneven ground with drops and rises all over it but with how bright it is its not such a bad place, to my surprise theres a few around and I let the bitch go and she picks one which goes straight into a big hollow in the field and out of the light then I'm greeted by the tell tale squeal of the rabbit and then see Luna emerge from the hollow with her prize.I then get to the top end of field and she misses another 2 so I decide to head home.I get back to the field that brock was in and sat out is a solitary bunny who seems oblivious to us, the pup is away and after a good little course she's got him and I'm happy, it took me longer to get there and back than it did actually catching them but was worth it just to see the Luna run as well as she did.5 rabbits is no big deal to some but considering the conditions and the location not a bad few hours at all. Thanks for reading..........John 2 Quote Link to post
