Cars from the 80s and 90s....what would you have?

Recommended Posts

excluding the likes of ferrari/lambo/porsche etc. what car would you have from the 80s or 90s if you could find and afford a minter?

I've always fancied a Renault 5 GT turbo but never ended up getting one although I came close a couple of years ago, found a 1990 one with mint bodywork but mechanically it was bolloxed and underneath was rusted to shit, he wanted £800 for it but would have cost over £2k to get it sorted.

saw one of these bad boys in Wrexham a couple of months ago aswell, absolute minter it was....would have had it in a heartbeat if it was for sale!

lotus carlton, now that was a machine! the horse power figure seemed enormous at the time!!! not that big now (although still pretty impressive!), suppose cars were a lot lighter then though.

I test drove a TVR Griffith a few years back but delayed because I was buying a house and then couldn't find a decent one when I started looking again.

On the test drive I took it onto a dual carriageway hit third at about 50 or 60 mph and was REALLY disappointed with the kick............then the salesman informs me that it wasn't kicking cos the wheels were spinning :icon_eek: . Tried again without being so heavy footed and jesus christ alfucking mighty did that thing shift!!!! I had a ZX7R at the time and it felt on par with that.......like a f'ckin rocket with wheels!!!

Would love one of them now!

For me Ford had the 80's sown up for"performance" cars...My favourite was the Sierra 4x4 28i(moonstone blue) & the very rare RS 1600i Escort,i think these were on produced on a X-A plate??Only ever seen 1 of these in the N/E.

I was tempted to buy a Sierra 4x4(2.9i) about 8 year ago but the running costs were still a bit high for my liking, see the occasional RS Turbo but not many are original cars :( there's a white F reg XR3i in excellent nick i see around now & again, original car but with the horrible white wheel trims on :bad:
