Venatore 0
Hey guys, I'm very interested in hunting dogs and their capabilities, here in the UK they're mainly used to course rabbit, hare and deer but I was wondering if any of you were from abroad or know people or accounts from abroad of how these dogs fare with larger and / or more exotic game? Do you know what animals they are used on and how they fare against them? Thanks for the info! Quote Link to post

irishnut 297
well i know that beddy whippets are used in namibia for the sole purpose of catching cheetas. as they are the worlds fastest creature, just slightly faster than a ethiopian with a cornish pasty in his hip pocket. 2 Quote Link to post

hullhunter 219
i used to use my whippet x pomaranian (pom to give good coat) to hunt seal and poler bear when i lived at the pole she took the odd walrus to. the only problem i had was making shoes for her that would protect her feet from the ice but still be flipper like so she could swim well. ill put pics up an other day. all single handed and pre ban.and when the snow went i tryed her on Arctic fox but it jacked. mackem 29,574
Take no notice of their cynicism and mockery Venatore, they are just naturally sarcastic, its a THL trait when someone comes on making an honest enquiry.Exotic prey?Well,i wont divulge the location for fear of it being 4X4'd and BullX'ed to death BUT I have had a few Jackalopes recently, they are easy enough for the average dog providing the dog was entered pre-ban on sheep and yak. 3 Quote Link to post
mackem 29,574
Also had a few Haggi(coloquial slang for haggis)north of the border mate, difficult to get these out in the open as they tend to frequent heather-clad hills and thick whin covered embankments, you can lure them out by imitating their mating calls "Gnuurrrkkkkk....Gnuurrrkkkkkkk" during early spring and once drawn out in the open are easy-meat for lurchers bred for the purpose, such as whippetXgreat Danes or similar, basically any dog with the bulk of a Dane and the whippets slight frame will suffice. 1 Quote Link to post
