martnmagik 68
i took on a 3 year old PET ferret some years ago and thought it would never come good so we used to let my mates young lad bring it along to put down small warrens (to keep him out the way )while we worked the larger ones and after a couple of seasons it turned out a good worker. not anything special but it bolted its fair share for the lad. so give it a try mate you never know Quote Link to post

Maybe i'll give them a go Cant see it being a problem mate , ferrets have that instinct to hunt and explore hardwired into them ! If you can get a more experienced ferret for them to ferret alongside with then i think you will be fine , plus if they have been spayed you won't have to worry aboy=ut jill jabs and what have you . If you cant find someone who will accompany you , then just work some small burys and just let them do what comes naturally ! Let us know what you decide and how it goes Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
No, as said already i've seen pet ferrets given to people that have never seen a hole turn into good workers, Sometimes a ferret can benefit from being started later on in life, Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
No Started older ferrets before, no probs ATB Quote Link to post
The one 8,577
Give it a go ,the only thing is if they turn out to be good grafters , when your needing replacements you cant breed them ,but thats no everybodies cup of tea anyway Quote Link to post
joehoskin 0
my old man used to say to me that a ferret wont start working to its best, intill there 2 years old. Quote Link to post
will84 10
thanks for the reply's gents phoned the rescue centre today and the jills i'd seen on the website have gone but was told they have around 30 ferrets there, various ages and sex's, all jills have been spayed so gonna call in one day this week and have a nosey. How much does it cost to get a jill spayed or a hob neutered? cost of a jill jab each time?? They are asking for a £30 "donation" for each ferret, I didn't think that was too bad considering some kits are advertised for £15, obviously I would prefer to buy some proven workers or from good stock but I havn't seen any about only kits advertised Will keep you posted as to how I get on Quote Link to post
