Simoman 110
I hate to think about the CMW WITHOUT Pennys articles tbh...........I stopped getting it about 99 and have boght the odd one since, must admit EDRD dont dilute articles at all.............. Penny thats very disapointing to hear they wouldn't even entertain a deer related article when it was perfectly legal, to me that sums up the ethos behind the magazine............ Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
I think they were worried about upsetting the deer stalkers and shooters! You know the way that other field sports view lurchers? We're the lowest of the low in the eyes of 'nobler' activities such as shooting and deer stalking: IMO it has to be a throw back to the old class thing when peasants weren't even allowed to own a running dog, so it stand to reason that people who shoot grouse, stalk deer, ride to hounds on horseback etc have to be 'above' lurcher owners ( in their own eyes). I'm not saying that they're all like that, but it is certainly true of a lot of them. 2 Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
Thats exactly what i mean Penny, they look down on lurcher and terrier lads, the poor relation of countrysports, for that very reason i wouldn't buy the mag and will continue to give my support to EDRD, this is not a dig at you at all Penny Quote Link to post

A while back I was reading a discussion to do with a study about making deer stalking more accessible, because the current system isn't doing enough to maintain a healthy population. For them it seems that the exclusivity of the pursuit is far more important to them than anything else.. Quote Link to post
robert michem 314
never add the CMW in me life,, me mates have they tell me about all the bollocks in and its not for me// ,wud sooner do it than read about it,, Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
Too true Malt: anything which makes some elite sport accessible to the masses will automatically threaten their perceived status, and their 'right' to some indefinable power over the 'have nots'. Like any government: it can only be successful if the 'have nots' accept the power as something to be respected which is also why there are a lot of 'have nots' who think it their 'right' to make life uncomfortable as possible for the 'haves' by poaching their land and taking their game. It's a situation as old as humanity and I don't really think it will change, certainly not this century, and probably never. The 'haves' are too frightened of losing their status and power and the 'have nots' are too determined to be a thorn in their side. Just my opinion. Quote Link to post
DottyDoo 500
cmw is nowt but bog roll, the ads in it are gettin worse an worse, very few people write for it, that actually should lol tho i do agree way this thread penny(skycat) seems to know her stuff when it come to our canine companions...... pity she wasnae a man, im sure she woulda been even better Quote Link to post

morton 5,369
I buy the CMW on a regular basis, the snobbery by some of the authors is always good for a laugh, there are some decent shooting and fishing articles, even though i don't shoot. The advertisements are sometimes f****ng hilarious. The lurcher and terrier articles are mostly total drivel, apart from P.T.,her articles are written from genuine experience in the field, all except the one about the colour of Lurcher pups, must have had an hangover writing that one.Its not the best mag about, but for a couple of quid it passes an afternoon at work. Moll. 1,793
Perhaps it would be a nice idea if we could give Penny some ideas for future articles, must be a nightmare to try to come up with something new all the time? 1 Quote Link to post
