Malt 379
wasnt the vulcan how we were gonna deliver our nukes, before polaris came along? They were part of the 'V' bomber force of nuclear armed bombers along with the Victor & Valiant. The Vulcan only ever dropped conventional bombs during the Falklands war. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Black_Buck I remember seeing one fly at the RAF Brawdy air show as a kid. Makes me sad to look back at what we had and the sort of innovation we used to come up with on a budget. We're a poor, poor shadow of our former selves these days. I can't remember that much about it, but there were startling similarities with the start of the fall of the Roman empire as to what's happening now. Also, I read in a Clarkson book a few weeks ago (written in 2004) that he read a book predicting exactly what's happening in the US right now about financial collapse. The way the whole world economy is currently set up means if they go, we all go. All developed countries are far too reliant on each other IMO, we'll all come down like a house of cards. That's why I reckon they're so worried about the Euro failing. We're right under the old Concorde flightpath here, we used to hear the sonic boom as it accelerated out over the Atlantic twice a day if the weather was right. scothunter 12,609
it was loud enough without it going sonic,f**k knows how loud that would sound mate lol

andyfr1968 772
Magnificent aircraft from the days before the Great part in Great Britan was a bit of a joke... Isn't there a charity that's trying to raise funding to get one flying again? I'm sure I read about them somewhere and they'd been knocked back by the Lottery for cash. I saw them at airshows when I was a lad. Those and the Lightning made a big impression on me at the time!!
Malt 379
Those and the Lightning made a big impression on me at the time!! That was some beast of an aircraft too, say those at the Brawdy air show as well! Their only weakness was a severe lack of range, other than that it was the best point defence fighter of the age. andyfr1968 772
Very good in a straight line, Malt, but not too good in the corners! LOL Shame the TSR2 got axed. Bloody Yanks.....
Malt 379
Very good in a straight line, Malt, but not too good in the corners! LOL Aye but she wasn't built for cornering! They reckon she whooped the starfighter in every aspect, apart from level flight at low altitude where it was a dead heat. I remember seeing all these planes fly as a kid, now there's feck all left of our once great aerospace industry. I cant think of the last all British plane we made that could live with the best of the rest. The Eurofighter is a fine piece of kit, but it's out of date by about 20 years and it's not all British. Not much left at the minute to be proud of if you're a patriotic Brit with pride in our military, apart from our new type 45 destroyers & our astute class subs.
